There is great buzz over
Shotgun Lovesongs, an Indies Introduce title, and making the Indie Bestseller List in
other regions.  The NYT did a great review this past Sunday in print and online. And Nick Butler's interview with Scott Simon can be heard here.

St. Martins is ready to restock, so handsell away!

NAIBA Trunk Show
Friday, June 13
Best Western Carrier Circle
East Syracuse, NY

We have a great show lined up, with authors, sales reps and, of course, all of central, northern and western New York booksellers.  Our education session at the end of the day will be Inventory Control.

Booksellers: Email NAIBA and let us know who will be joining us. This is a great spot for the booksellers who don't get to attend other industry events.  It is free for all booksellers.

Publishers: Shouldn't you be where the booksellers are? If you haven't sent in your form, do so now.

I just had an interesting conversation with a good book customer. He mentioned that he buys his books online from you-know-where and I asked why he didn't buy from his local independent bookstore. He had no idea that store even sold books online.

So I encourage you all to look around your store, on your website, on your newsletters, your shopping bags, your sales receipts and make sure you are telling your in-store customers that they can shop at your store anytime. Make it part of your farewell. "Don't forget to buy online at our store. Bye bye!"

Things You Can Do For Me Right Now

Think about the sales rep who does so much for you and needs to be recognized for the great job they do. Then email me their name for the Helmuth Sales Rep of the Year award.

Think about the bookseller who does a phenomenal job handselling. Then email me their name for the Joe Drabyak Handseller of the Year award.

Publishers take note: We want your best authors at our Fall Conference. Email me the names of authors we can feature at our Preview Supper, Author Reception, author breakfasts, Movable Feast lunch,

ABA Forum on April 29

NAIBA's next Gathering will be the ABA Forum in White Plains, NY on Tuesday, April 29.

(I can't wait for this!)

The forums are free and open to ABA & NAIBA members and non-members alike; however, for planning purposes, anyone who will be attending is asked to RSVP.

New & Used Books

Aaron's shoptalk
This past Sunday, Sam and Todd Dickinson, co-owners of Aaron's Books in Lititz, PA hosted the NAIBAhood Gathering on New & Used books. Thirty of us were there to talk about receiving, processing, shelving, credit, and customer service in the area of used books. The discussion was lively, very informative, and it reinforced the value of used books in an independent environment. There was also a demonstration of Basil Software, which is set up to handle the unique aspects of used book sales. At the conclusion of the Gathering, booksellers were kind enough to stay on and conduct a Book Buddies with Aaron's Books owners, answering questions and offering advice.

Great news from Thomas G. Roberts, Proprietor, YE OLDE WARWICK BOOK SHOPPE:

We are about to celebrate our 2nd anniversary. This past year we actually expanded. We added a 2nd floor and a new Kiddie Korner. We went from 900 sq. ft. of selling floor to 1200 sq. ft. We now feel like a grown-up Book Shoppe. The Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce will be conducting a Grand Re-Opening Ribbon Cutting on Friday, April 18th at 4:00 pm. On Saturday the 19th and Sunday the 20th we will be having our annual anniversary sale. 2 Years. 2 Floors. 2 Day Anniversary Sale. It's been an exciting and exhausting second year.
