Get The Data To Support Your Shop Local Initiative

The Business Alliance for Local Living Economies will be hosting a free webinar on the findings of the Independent Business Survey, a post-holiday survey of 2,602 independent business owners across the U.S., which was released last week. The webinar "Measuring Local First: Results From the Annual ILSR Independent Business Survey" will take place on Tuesday, February 18, at 10:00 a.m. PT / 1:00 p.m. ET. Registration is now open, but space is limited and is expected to fill up fast.

Stacy Mitchell of the Institute for Local Self-Reliance (ILSR) will lead the webinar, which will look at the survey results and discuss ways that business owners and other indie advocates can use the findings to build localism in their communities. More than 75 percent of survey respondents who are located in cities with active Local First campaigns reported increased customer traffic or other benefits from these initiatives, as well as sales growth of 7 percent on average in 2013, compared to 2.3 percent for independent businesses in places without such an initiative.

Mitchell will provide examples of how the survey data has been used in communities across the country and will invite webinar participants to take part in a question-and-answer session. The 2014 Independent Business Survey was conducted by ISLR in partnership with Advocates for Independent Business, of which the American Booksellers Association is a founding member. Results of the entire survey can be downloaded here.

Happy Valentines Day - I love you guys.
