Have You Heard About NAIBA's Programs?
NAIBA has two new programs to make your life (as a bookseller) easier. Publisher Promotions is a weekly spreadsheet of current publisher promotions. All in one spot. At the ready when you are placing your orders on Mondays. Booksellers: Email NAIBA if you are the buyer who wants to receive this information. Publishers: If you aren't signed up to include your promotions, email NAIBA. Publishers Advocate is a way for booksellers to get marked-up Edelweiss catalogs from publishers. We have a dedicated team of sales reps who will send them to the booksellers participating in the program. If you aren't receiving Edelweiss catalogs from any particular publisher, email NAIBA and get on their distribution list. |

Online Children's Book Art Auction
An auction of more than 70 pieces of art created for children's books launched on eBay today. New pieces are being added throughout the day. The Holiday Children's Book Art Auction, which supports the free speech rights of kids, features many original works and high-quality prints by some of the leading artists and illustrators working in the book industry today, including Eric Carle, Chris Raschka, Judy Schachner, Bob Staake, Tom Lichtenheld, and Alexandra Boiger. Use this link to join the auction. It ends on Dec. 3.
The holiday auction is the online version of the auction that is held during BookExpo America (BEA). Sponsored by the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression (ABFFE), the bookseller's voice in the fight against censorship, the auction supports the Kids' Right to Read Project (KRRP) and Banned Books Week, the national celebration of the freedom to read. KRRP, which was founded by ABFFE and the National Coalition Against Censorship, helps students, parents, teachers, librarians and booksellers fight book censorship in schools and libraries.

David Macaulay & SS United States
Christine Hower, formerly with Moravian Book Shop, is now focusing on her photography & web site/graphic design business. She is working with small businesses and non-profits, one of which is the SS United States Conservancy, an organization dedicated to the preservation and redevelopment of the historic SS United States.
Some of you are aware that renowned author/illustrator David Macaulay has been working on a new book to be released next year -- a history of technology centered on the design and construction of the SS United States. Having immigrated to the US as a boy aboard the SS United States, the ship has special meaning to him, and he has joined the Conservancy's Advisory Council. He is sharing some of his thoughts and sketches through a blog he writes on the Conservancy's web site (http://www.ssusc.org/category/macaulay/).
As part of its urgent SOS Campaign on behalf of "America's Flagship", the Conservancy has released a unique t-shirt featuring one of David Macaulay's original sketches. This limited edition t-shirt is now available to purchase.
The goal is 175 shirt orders over the next 2-1/2 weeks. The tees are $20 each, with the drawing of the ship and Macaulay's signature on the front, and "Save America's Flagship" and "SavetheUnitedStates.org" in Macaulay's handwriting on the back.
