Spring 2015

As Mad Men lurches to the series finale, we're reminded of one of Don Draper's best quotes: "If you don't like what's being said, change the conversation."

That's so true in marketing: If your story isn't resonating with prospects and clients, change your key messaging. Then broadcast those messages according to your content strategy. And it's just as true in life: If you don't like what you are hearing from the people around you -- or your inner voice -- make a change for the better.

Great advice, Don. We'll see over the next few weeks if you follow it yourself. In the meantime, here are a few of this memorable character's most incisive moments.

  1. Get out of yourself and make it about the other person.
  2. Practice active listening.
  3. Move the conversation to a deeper level. (What can you do to make people open up and be willing to share with you?)
  4. Ask good questions.
  5. Consider time and space. (Make sure you have the time and atmosphere to spark a really good conversation)
