Early Spring 2015

Are you ready for the Internet of Me? Walking the 2015 CES show, it was both exciting and disturbing to see how devices can and will generate information about us. Your home's thermostat. The baby's pacifier. The washing machine. The dog's food bowl. Your pulse. It seems that every aspect of your life can be quantified, and companies are eager to use that data to deliver experiences tailored exclusively for you. Want to improve your yoga practice? Your mat will give you tips based on your specific poses. Want to wake at the ideal time for you? A device will determine that based on your sleeping patterns and sound the alarm.

When is it valuable to have your preferences, desires and moods driving how devices respond to you? And when does it just seem wrong? It will be interesting to see if this bespoke approach transforms our lives for the better.

¿Hablas Español? Learn as many as nine new languages with Duolingo, a completely free language learning website and app. Dubbed Google's "Best of the Best 2014" and iPhone app of the year 2013, it's a fun and effective way to transform your language skills. An independent study by the City University of New York and the University of South Carolina found an average of 34 hours of Duolingo are equivalent to a full university semester of language education.

Transform Skeptics into Believers

Image of a rock that says

To build trust with customers or clients, say it well, then say it again (and again and again). Say it in email, on your website and on your favorite social media outlet. Repetition builds trust. According to the Edelman Trust Barometer, 64% of customers need to hear a company's message three to five times before they believe it.

Word Wise

When is a List More than a List?

When it's a listicle! No doubt you know what they are, you just may not be familiar with this term. In blogging and journalism, a listicle is a short article structured around a list, usually a numbered list. The title often features a number, such as "The Top 15 Apps for 2015." Does that name make you think "popsicle?" When you find these articles on social media they are often sweet and fun but ultimately rather empty (think BuzzFeed).

Need more? Here are the top nine things you need to know about listicles.
