Parkinson Association of the Rockies

Betty

On Saturday, January 23rd, almost 150 people came to ski or snowshoe at the 2nd Annual Ski for Parkinson's event. Haymaker Nordic Center, in Steamboat Springs, provided a perfect backdrop, an excellent track for skiers to enjoy as well as a delicious lunch for all!

This event is dedicated to the memory of Bill Root. Last year Bill gathered his family and friends in the Yampa Valley Parkinson Support Network (YVPSN) to quickly pull together the inaugural Ski for Parkinson's event. Bill was also a leader in forming the YVPSN and the Parkinson's Nordic Instructional Program. Bill's kindness and humor are sorely missed - but his passion continues to live on through this event!

Because of the support and help from all of you, the YVPSN has already raised almost $18,800.00 to provide programs and services, free of charge, to all people with Parkinson's and their care partners, in the Yampa Valley communities. Click for more info on YVPSN.

Missed the event, but still want to contribute?

We are deeply grateful to all the sponsors, those who contributed prizes for the incredible drawing packages and all the volunteers who made this event run so smoothly.

Clinical Research Trial
The Regis Doctor of Physical Therapy program is recruiting individuals for a study to compare the effects of doing more than one thing at a time on gait, which can impact falling. You may qualify for this study if you:
  • Are an individual diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease
  • Are between the age of 50-70
  • Can walk without assistance for at least 5 minutes
If you are able to participate in this study, you will be asked to walk several times; on a regular floor, on a treadmill and after standing up and walking around a cone. This will be done without distractions and then while you perform a motor and a thinking activity.

For more information or to see if you qualify, contact Dr. Marcia Smith, PT by email or (303) 458-4340 or Kate Meisbauer, SPT by email or (707) 845-8185.
