The NELA Gala is the SIF's most important fund-raising and public affairs event, highlighting the foundation's commitment to educational excellence, leadership and the betterment of society.

Sergio Mattarella Named President of Italy 

Sergio Mattarella, a former justice of Italy's Constitutional Court, was elected President of Italy by the country's parliament on January 31st after three days of voting. President Mattarella succeeds Giorgio Napolitano who stepped down in early January. 

President Obama sent congratulations and applauded Mattarella's "distinguished record of public service." The president also stated that he looks forward to reaffirming the bonds between Italy and the United States in the future. Read more from President Obama here.
