The Sons of Italy Foundation® (SIF) wants to put an end to Alzheimer's disease, autism and Cooley's anemia (beta thalassemia major).
We want to do this, not only because they can have dire effects on our family and friends but, also, because they affect our neighbors, our coworkers, our classmates -- and complete strangers. Because they DO AFFECT MILLIONS OF PEOPLE in the United States alone.
The SIF is a committed partner of the Alzheimer's Association, the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism and the Cooley's Anemia Foundation in the fight to end these devastating diseases/disorders and to enhance the quality of life for people living with them. WILL YOU JOIN US?

There are many compelling reasons to help now; here are three. As you read this email today: - Alzheimer's disease is the 6th leading cause of death among U.S. adults. By 2050, the estimated number of Americans over 65 with the disease could reach nearly 16 million [ref.].
- About 1 in every 68 children born will be diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder [ref.], and the estimated lifetime cost to care for a person with autism can reach as high as $2.4 million [ref.].
- About 1,000 people in the United States are affected by Cooley's anemia [ref.]. Patient treatments are often extremely painful and life expectancy is low without them.

The good news is the Alzheimer's Association, Flutie Foundation and Cooley's Anemia Foundation have all made great strides in medical research on causes and cures, patient treatments, advocacy and awareness, family services and caregiver support. The SIF is proud of its role in these accomplishments and we look forward to seeing and supporting more groundbreaking work.
