On Thursday, May 23, 2013, the Sons of Italy Foundation's
25th Annual National Education & Leadership Awards (NELA) Gala returns to the National Building Museum to honor: Sergio Marchionne, Gen. Colin Powell, Robert Corrao, and Gary Sinise.
The NELA Gala is the SIF's most important fund-raising and public affairs event, highlighting the foundation's commitment to educational excellence, leadership and the betterment of society. To date, the NELA Gala has helped the SIF raise nearly $125 million for education, medical research, disaster relief, cultural preservation, and other special projects, with $51 million in scholarships awarded.

Help Re-open the Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island

In the 23 years that Ellis Island has been open as a museum, nearly 50 million people have passed through its doors, tracing the footsteps of their ancestors and searching for the arrival records of the several million Italians and millions of other people who immigrated to America since 1892.
Then came Hurricane Sandy which ravaged both Liberty and Ellis islands. The infrastructure damage was so serious that it is still not known when the island will open although the goal is Labor Day. We are all working hard on fixing it, but it will take millions of dollars to get the work done.
