Speakers Series on Islam - Begins Sunday, January 10, 10-10:45 AM, at the Parish House

Islam, Judaism and Christianity share much as the three Abrahamic faiths, but Islam remains poorly understood in the US. In January, King's Chapel begins a series about Islam, with our first guest speaker, Celene Ibrahim, the Islamic Studies Scholar-in-Residence and Co-Director of the Center for Inter-Religious and Communal Leadership Education at Hebrew College & Andover Newton Theological School, and the Muslim Chaplain at Tufts.  We'll meet at the Parish House, 64 Beacon Street, from 10-10:45, between our 9 AM and 11 AM services.
Retreat at Glastonbury Abbey, January 15-17, 2016

What is your favorite hymn? Is there a hymn that makes you cry, laugh, cringe? Are there words you don't believe? Is there a hymn that is central to your faith? In the beauty and peace of the Glastonbury Abbey in Hingham, Massachusetts, we will explore the theology, history and spirituality of Christian hymnody. We will discuss and reflect on classic hymns, and of course, sing! Start the new year making a joyful noise!

Martin Luther King Weekend Preacher

On Sunday, January 17th, we welcome as our preacher the Executive Director of  Common Cathedral, the outdoor church on Boston Common that gathers weekly by the Park Street T stop. We've partnered with this congregation several times recently, including in our Christmas backpacks project. Amanda Grant-Rose is a frequent preacher at other churches, sharing about the work of her organization with those in Boston without homes -- times of worship and adult education, meals and spiritual reflection, artwork and conversation.  Come and learn more about this important work and how we can continue to deepen our relationships.

King's Chapel Community Action

In this very special season of giving we remember those in need.

Blessing and Procession of the Backpacks

Our Community Action Committee, along with donations from King's Chapel members and friends, participated in the Backpacks for the Homeless program again this year.  112 backpacks were filled with hats, gloves, socks, scarves, personal care items and food items.  The backpacks were blessed at both the 9 AM and 11 AM church services on Sunday. After Morning Prayer, all who wanted to participate joined in a procession to deliver the backpacks to members of Common Cathedral, the outdoor church that meets each  Sunday near the Park Street T station. The backpacks were a most welcome gift, greatly appreciated by our neighbors at Common Cathedral. For more information contact Judy Luca at judyg143@gmail.com.
Habitat for Humanity

King's Chapel has a long standing relationship with Habitat for Humanity. This year King's Chapel members participated in 3 Habitat for Humanity builds. two builds in Boston and one build in South Africa. If you would like more information please contact Peter Sexton at petersexton@alum.mit.edu or Lark Palermo, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston at larkpalermo@habitatboston.org.

Horizons for Homeless Children

This December the second Sunday offering was donated to Horizons for Homeless Children. Community Action Committee also donated $1000 to Horizons for Homeless Children to purchase two big ticket items. We purchased a Mobile Teaching Cabinet and Cozy Corner.

Milk Punch Sunday

A wonderful crowd of King's Chapel members and friends gathered at the Parish House on Sunday for our annual Milk Punch Christmas Party.  By the time I arrived, I had to tilt the glass Milk Punch bowl to scoop out a cup, which lets me know that a great time was being had by all!  George Boitano the elder played the piano, young adults sang carols, and young George Boitano again won the game of Musical Chairs. Todd Lee and Carolyn Russ composed a new rendition of the Twelve Days of Christmas, celebrating the things we are grateful for at King's Chapel.  Many thanks to the tireless Hospitality team of Anne Sexton and Gregg Sorensen who hosted us, ably assisted, as always, by many other Christmas elves who prepared food, decorated, and washed countless dishes. We welcomed new folks, and greeted the well-known -- just as church should be.   Joy
Save the Date, Budget Hearing

Budget Hearing set for Sunday, January 24th 2016, at the Parish House.
We Rejoice with Those Who Rejoice, and Weep with Those Who Weep

This week we celebrate!  Choir member Emily Beiber is now engaged to Isaac Harris!

On Saturday, Judy and Paul Luca just re-enacted their first date, 6 years ago (he was identifiable by the red rose between his teeth!).

Caroline Robertson Welling's research on autism was covered in numerous places, including the Huffington Post under this title: "Landmark Study Identifies Key Brain Difference In Autism."
Accessibility Assists

Our beautiful Georgian sanctuary designed by Peter Harrison and completed in 1754, has been lovingly maintained by the congregation since its completion. One of the box pews has been made wheel-chair accessible.  Ushers are available to assist those who are wheelchair-bound to that pew.
