Barbecue TONIGHT! 7 PM in the Parish House Garden
Come one, come all to the Barbecue tonight at 64 Beacon St., at our Parish House
Garden. The Fallons are supplying hamburgers, hotdogs, buns, and beverages.
If you'd like anything more bring it along: hors d'oeuvres, salad, desserts. No RSVP
needed.
It also will be a chance to meet our newest members who joined in June (Stephen Courtney, Jim Power and Jessica Allan Schmidt), and to say goodbye to Hannah McMeans, soprano from our choir, and regular Cantor at our Wednesday 6 PM service.

"Stating the truth in love." Yeah, right. Does your heart sink when you hear that phrase: so often code for the fusillade of criticism about to follow, under the pretense of both "truth" and "love"? But wouldn't it be wonderful if we could know how to lovingly state the truth, even when it's hard? Don't you admire those who can say the hard things that need to be said, in a way that others can hear?
Instead, many of us get nervous about how to disagree, so we either remain silent, or we barge ahead with our assertion of "the truth," without fully understanding that someone else can have a different, but still legitimate perspective. Feelings get hurt or tempers flare. We resolve never to confront that person again, or that touchy topic. Sometimes we walk away from the relationship entirely, unable to imagine how the chasm between us or between our disparate views of the "truth" can ever be bridged.
Tell me: Is there anything or anyone God cannot reconcile, if we are open to it? What is it that God can never bind back together? God, whose other name is Love.
Sunday is Communion Sunday, a day when we get to say "I'm sorry": I've done things I didn't intend, and evaded things I should have addressed. We pray for forgiveness, and our faith tells us - amazingly - that it is granted. So we all come together around one table, where bread is shared with everyone, no one left out by bad behavior. We're united by hope: that there is One who can bind us back together, even when we can't imagine how. Our next job is to be open to that possibility.
The stories are about David and Bathsheba, and about "Crucial Conversations," a NYT bestseller.

We Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep...
We are sorry to learn from Peter Thomson that his daughter, Gwendolyn, is suffering from cancer. We have added her to our bede list, and ask that you join in prayer for her.
We delight with Hannah McMeans that she has been admitted to several law schools, and has chosen U California Irvine, although we are saddened that it means we must bid farewell to this lovely choir member. In addition to singing with the King's Chapel Choir, Hannah has served as our primary cantor for both last year's Taizé services and our new Wednesday evening worship, where she has been a most valuable member of our team developing the service. During her years in Boston, Hannah has also performed extensively with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus and Cantata Singers. She will be greatly missed.
But it is with great jubilation that we look forward to the next exciting chapter in Hannah's life as she heads to University of California Irvine to attend law school in her native state.Godspeed, good luck, and stay in touch with your KC friends!

Parishioners Helping Parishioners
This will be a new feature, from time to time. If the church has jobs that need to be done; you have skills to offer the church or one another; or you need some help, please let us know. This week:
Needed: A Good Used Affordable Car
A member of our congregation is in need of a new car, after the one she relies on recently became irreparable. If you have a reliable car you are looking to donate or sell, or if you have a car you would be willing to loan for several weeks, please contact the Parish House.
Wanted: Someone to video sermons periodically. Bill Sears is the only person currently taping sermons; if he can't be present, they aren't recorded. It's an easy
task for someone attending the Sunday morning service. We'll provide the equipment. Contact Joy Fallon, Shawn Fiedler or Julina Rundberg at the Parish House: joy@kings-chapel.org, shawn@kings-chapel.org, julina@kings-chapel.org

Accessibility and Hearing Assists
Our beautiful Georgian sanctuary designed by Peter Harrison and completed in 1754, has been lovingly maintained by the congregation since its completion. One of the box pews has been made wheel-chair accessible. Ushers are available to assist those who are wheelchair-bound to that pew.
Many of us have trouble hearing in our sanctuary, which does not have amplification. Sound carries best on the main floor of the sanctuary, in areas that are not covered by the balcony. In June, the Vestry approved a hearing system which we hope will be implemented in the near future. |
