Keeping King's Chapel's members, friends, and subscribed visitors connected each week between Sunday worship services with updates from the Parish House.
Spotlight On...

The Baptisms of
Joseph Dawson Jeremiah Perry
& David Carlton Louis Perry
sons of Joei Marshall Perry & Daniel Perry.

At King's Chapel you will not find required creeds or statements of faith. There are no tests of belief or defined doctrines. Instead, we have promises, covenants, vows.

This Sunday, we will gather around the baptismal font, pour and bless water, and make a promise, form a covenant, vow.

We will promise, as members of this church and the whole Church of Christ, to receive Joseph & David into our love and care. We will promise to uphold and encourage their parents and godparents in their promises to raise Joseph & David in the Christian faith, to instruct them in the teachings of Jesus, and to teach them to live for others and not for themselves alone.

Most of all, we will promise to walk with Joseph & David through their pilgrimage of faith-to encourage, to challenge, to love. Thanks be to God. Amen.

From the Minister

You are Invited:  Every Wednesday at 6 PM - Our New Service

In candlelight, the Church looks beautiful. The astonishing solo voice of one of our choir members lifts from the marble chancel up front he stands.  On the communion table next to him is a fresh loaf of challah bread, sweet to the taste.  One of our ministers offers a short homily.  We all sing and pray and then move to stand around the communion table - all of us there in a circle.  We hear these words brought to us by Shawn:

Among Jesus that evening was one who would deny him, one who would doubt him, one who would betray him, and in his hour of most need they would all desert him, and he knew it. If he was ready to eat with them, surely he is ready to eat with us: Baptized or Not, Believe a little or believe a lot, Saint or Sinner or a little bit of both, all you have to be is hungry to come to this table.

All of us who are hungry are invited to come to this new, 45 minute service:  6 PM at the church, every Wednesday evening.  It may be just what you need to feed your hungry soul.

--Joy

If on one Wednesday night you are willing to help host coffee hour after the service, please contact Vestry member Mindy Hinkel or check out the sign-up form she's created HERE!

A Message from Mindy:

"Last week, despite the frigid temperatures, King's Chapel was warmer than ever as a new Evening service began at 6 pm on Wednesdays in the main sanctuary.  The doors were open, the candlelight inviting, the communion table prepared, the homily heartfelt and the conversation afterward lively and welcoming to members and newcomers alike.

Please consider supporting this new service as it will equally support you and warm your heart "Between Sundays".  Beyond attending, volunteers are needed to provide hospitality so the conversations can continue with sustenance of the literal kind.  This is a perfect time to try your hand at providing hospitality for the first time.  It's super easy and Mindy Hinkel will be happy to walk you through the process or team you up with someone to make it less overwhelming.  There is a sign-up sheet available herewhich includes more details to get started through Holy Week.  Or, reach out directly to Mindy Hinkel by email at mindyhinkel@gmail.com or phone (617) 939-4604."

Best,
Mindy

Easter Flower Dedications

It's already time!  Every year for Easter, our sanctuary is beautifully decorated with tulips, daffodils, hydrangeas and other exuberant signs of spring.  After the record-breaking snowfall we've had this year, it's certainly something to look forward to!

This year's budget, however, relies more heavily on dedications from members and friends of King's Chapel to fund the decoration of the church.

If you would like to contribute flowers for the Easter Service as a memorial to a loved one, please send to the Parish House:

1) the name of individuals you wish to honor or remember
2) your name, address, phone number and email
3) a check ($50/ per Easter Memorial Plant) with "Easter Flowers" in the memo line

Holding the Tranter Family in Prayer

We hold in prayer the Tranter Family -- Mark, Chair of our Church School Committee; Paula, Co-Chair of our Chancel Committee; and their son Charlie, a beloved participant in our Church School.  Paula's mother, Pauline Bock, died unexpectedly last week. The Tranters can be reached by mail at their new home, 6 Wordell Street, East Freetown, MA 02717 or through Paula's floral arrangement business, which very often provides the flowers that have graced our church: plante@verizon.net.

From the Bench
By Heinrich Christensen

The music for morning prayer this Sunday was all chosen in honor of the Perry family, as we celebrate the baptism of Joei & Dan's twins Joseph & David. The choir will sing Brahms' setting of Paalm 51:10-12 "Create in me, God, a pure heart", as well as the premiere of Spiritual Mass, the result of a collaborative effort: a few years ago, Mindy Hinkel had the interesting idea of using the melodies of three spirituals as the music for our sung communion music, the Kyrie, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei. For this Sunday's service, Heinrich arranged Mindy's Spiritual Mass for the choir, using the original arrangements by Harry Burleigh and Charles Gabriel. The three spirituals used are My Lord, What a Morning, Little David(!), Play on Your Harp, and His Eye is on the Sparrow. The closing hymn will be Joyful, Joyful, followed by the sung Lutkin Benediction, and followed by a postlude of Beethoven's Ode to Joy which was sung at Joei and Dan's wedding by their many choral friends.

Little Chapel News
Dear Friends,

I find the liturgical season of Lent to be a wonderful time to dive into some of the heart of Jesus' teachings and ministry; I think it provides us with a sense of how Jesus both wandered in the wilderness and offered guidance and truth following his return to Jerusalem. The church school lessons for younger children, as well as the sermon content for this upcoming Sunday (spoiler alert!) this Lent will continue to focus on the parables, two of which we encountered during the Epiphany season.

This week, we will turn to the Parable of the Mustard Seed, where we are reminded that even the tiniest amount of faith is powerful, and God's presence is known in the most ordinary parts of life. Writer and spiritualist Freidrich Buechner's words ring true: "What the frame does is enable us to see not just something about the moment but the moment itself in all its ineffable ordinariness and particularity." May we know love in the midst of the everyday.

I look forward to being in worship and fellowship with you on March 1. Please see more information about upcoming events and ways to plug in in the column to the right.

God's Peace,
Eva Englert

Accessibility and Hearing Assists
Our beautiful Georgian sanctuary designed by Peter Harrison and completed in 1754, has been lovingly maintained by the congregation since its completion.  Some of the box pews have been made wheel-chair accessible.  Ushers are available to assist those who are wheelchair-bound to those pews.

Many of us have trouble hearing in our sanctuary, which does not have amplification.  Small hearing devices are available; an usher also will be happy to provide one, and explain how they work.

The Book of Common Prayer According to the Use in King's Chapel is the cornerstone of worship at our 11 am Morning Prayer Services.  Printed orders of service including hymns, Psalms, and responsive sections of the Prayer Book liturgy are available to facilitate participation in worship for everyone.
Flower Dedication Dates Avaiable
Starting in April, King's Chapel has several dates open to those who wish to have a flower arrangement placed on the chancel, either in memory of a loved one or in celebration of a joyous event. For those interested in making a dedication, along with more information on the specific dates and prices, please contact Simon at the Parish House (Simon@kings-chapel.org/617-227-2155).
