The Parish House has been bustling for days! I am in awe of the budding new year in this place-the smell of fresh paint and freshly dusted shelves, the vibrant colors of autumn flowers, the sound of friends and staff dashing through the stairs. We are in full swing to prepare this place-our building and our hearts-for another year of life together.
Being at the Parish House these past few days, I feel like I've already started to get to know each of you. The more I learn about who you are, the more my excitement and joy grows as we move closer to Sunday.
At my interview I had the pleasure of meeting Levina Wong and Bill Sears. From them I heard about Augie, Danni and Caroline. I heard about the warm intimacy of our Little Chapel and the delight of Advent Craft Day and Pet Blessings. They shared stories of the warm welcome they received on their first visits to King's Chapel and the passion they have for this community. Since that initial meeting, I have met many members of the King's Chapel Church School community; each sharing with me a memory, a story, a vision. There is an enlivened spirit in this place. As I walk through our Church School classrooms or sit in prayer in our Little Chapel, my heart begins to race and my imagination swirls with anticipation and thrill. I can hardly wait to meet more of you and hear what has brought you to King's Chapel Sunday after Sunday.
I know how important our Early Service and Church School can be for the most precious among us in our community. I was blessed to have been raised in a church community that valued both its little ones and 'experienced' ones alike. Memories of singing 'alleluias' and gathering 'round to hear again the stories of prophets and angels bring delight to my heart. Those memories have guided me through a life of faith and continue to guide me as I journey.
This Sunday, September 21st at 9:45 a.m. we have the chance to do that very thing for those we treasure most in our community.
I look forward to meeting you, joining with you in worship, and journeying into the future together.
Blessings, Shawn

Meet Our New Church School Director, Eva Englert
|
 |
We are very pleased to welcome our new Church School Director, Eva Englert. Eva has been hard at work this week, preparing the Parish House and Little Chapel to welcome children and families back to Church School on Homecoming Sunday next week. A note from Eva:
Hello! I am Eva Englert, a born-and-raised Texan and Bostonian in the making. I am very excited to be a part of the King's Chapel community as the Church School Director! Working with children is one of my biggest passions, and I so look forward to working with the King's Chapel staff and congregation in strengthening the program and its beautifully deep roots while also exploring the exciting world of new dreams, ideas and ways of being!
I am also in my first year as a Masters of Divinity student at Boston University School of Theology, where I hope to continue making connections between faith, social and environmental justice, and leadership development. I am a candidate for ordained ministry in the United Methodist Church, and am also deeply interested in ecumenical collaboration. I graduated from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas in May of 2012, where I majored in Environmental Studies and minored in Religious Studies. I grew up in Dallas, Texas, where my mother is appointed as the senior pastor of First United Methodist Church, Garland. When I'm not studying or working, I enjoy drinking coffee, cooking, gardening and the outdoors, exploring New England, writing, spending time with my lovely roommates and friends, and singing with a small a cappella group in Brookline. I look forward to meeting all of you soon! |
