SIGHT Treasure Valley: Success is not being needed
SIGHT Treasure Valley's projects
Kip Sikes drew on his experience with SIGHT Treasure Valley in Idaho, USA, to share insights into respectful interaction with the communities that receive help.

The SIGHT's programs include science-and-engineering summer camps for grade-school children living near a Native American reservation and job-seeking support for refugees with technical training.

Takeaway tips from Sikes' presentation:
  • Develop a community by building relationships.
  • Don't fix things, build capabilities.
  • Educate by telling stories.
  • It's about people, not projects. Do what you are good at and seek help with what you are not good at.
  • And finally, when your project succeeds you'll know because the community won't need you anymore.
SIGHT San Diego: IEEE's information made accessible
Yabo Gao presents
The San Diego SIGHT created a website for uploading and streaming video of IEEE meetings and a mobile app for sharing information from regional chapters. Yabo Gao's presentation explained that the two digital media provide a lightweight platform for members to share and access the latest IEEE updates with ease, 24/7, from anywhere in the world with an Internet connection.
SIGHT Karachi: E-Health & Green Energy
SIGHT Karachi's green energy projects
SIGHT Karachi treated more than 500 patients in the first 90 days of the launch of its E-Health Remote Network telemedicine project. In partnership with the National University of Karachi, the chapter also held a Green Energy Showcase of projects such as a bicycle-powered generator and wind turbine designs.

Already underway, the Karachi team is developing a Smart Temperature Moderator for rural areas.
