Pre-Conference Session; Friday, June 5 from 7:00 until 9:00 PM Vets Auditorium, Rooms 312-317 

All attendees of Annual Conference are encouraged to be present for the Pre-Conference session. There will be a welcome and orientation with Conference Lay Leader Margaret Borgen and Conference Secretary Patty LaGree, followed by a time for discussion, which will focus on clergy healthcare benefits and the design task force recommendations. Time for questions and answers will be included. The Assistants to the Bishop, Treasurer, Director of Benefits, and Director of Communications will be available for further conversation. Download the Pre-Conference Agenda

(Name tags for Pre-registered Lay people will be at your assigned tables. Late registrations will be outside Halls A,B,and C beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. Clergy will receive their name tags at the Clergy Session on Saturday morning.)

Adam Hamilton's Teaching Sessions - Leading Beyond the Walls
Bishop Trimble invites all United Methodists to attend Adam Hamilton's Teaching Sessions regardless if you are a member of (delegate to) Annual Conference.
*  Session One - Effective Church Leadership - Sunday, June 7th - 7:15 pm: This session includes: the role of a leader; how leadership and management differ; the personal characteristics of leaders people follow; the practices of effective leaders; the importance of leading change; what excellent customer service looks like; and an introduction to strategic planning.
* Session Two - Ideas for Preaching and Worship - Monday, June 8th - 10:30 am: Learn the characteristics of effective preaching; how to prepare sermons that connect; using video in preaching; the aim of worship; as well as offering examples of multiple different sermons. 
* Session Three - Strategies for Reaching the Unchurched - Monday, June 8th 3:30 pm: Explore why unchurched people are unchurched; strategies for outreach; effective follow-up on first time visitors; and how to improve the church's witness in the community. This session will include an inspirational conclusion on The Future and Promise of Methodism.

at The 2015 Iowa Annual Conference Session

 

Enjoy a free breakfast and learn with experts from the United Methodist's Communications team about how to make a vital congregation and why that's important. Lay leaders and pastors come to learn how to lead more effectively, create inspiring worship, effectively utilize small groups, and engage the congregation and the community in service and mission. Register in advance today!

 

Wesley Woods Camp & Retreat Center, Indianola, IA

Karen Dungan, IA Director of Connectional Ministries will lead opening worship and Greg Forrester, Assistant General Secretary of UMCOR USA Disaster Response will be the keynote speaker. We will have a special UMCOR's 75th Anniversary celebration.

 

Friday morning will be led by UMCOR. Then Friday afternoon all participants engage in hands on Disaster recovery processes, like tarping a roof, mucking out, site assessment, drywalling, etc., with prizes to be awarded to the team who does it best!

 

All day classes will be held on Saturday including:

UMVIM leadership training, Connecting Neighbors, ERT Basic.

 

Pat Wright, director of Midwest Mission Distribution Center in Chatham, IL will be there as well as the Iowa Shower trailer!  We will solicit items for the MMDC. 

 

Worship together on Saturday evening. Sunday AM will round it out with bonus class options and a final wrap up session.
