Harpo Foundation Grants for Visual Artists
Deadline: May 6, 2014 Award Amount: Up to $10,000 Target Disciplines: Visual Arts
The Harpo Foundation supports artists who are under recognized by the field. The foundation seeks to stimulate creative inquiry to encourage new modes of thinking about art. Applications are evaluated on the basis of the quality of the artist's work, the potential to expand aesthetic inquiry, and its relationship to the foundation's priority to provide support to visual artists who are under recognized by the field. Grants are made directly to artists to support their development and therefore proposals do not require review by the Office of Sponsored Programs. For more information, see here.

John W. Kluge Center at the Library of Congress Kislak Short-term Fellowships for the Study of the History and Cultures of the Early Americas
Deadline: May 15, 2014 Award Amount: $4,200/month stipend for four months Target Disciplines: Research related to the discovery, contact, and colonial periods in Florida, the Caribbean, and Mesoamerica
The Kislak Fellows Program supports scholarly research that contributes significantly to a greater understanding of the history and cultures of the Americas. It provides an opportunity for a period of up to 4 months of concentrated use of materials from the Kislak Collection and other collections of the Library of Congress, through full-time residency at the Library. The collection contains some of the earliest records of indigenous peoples in North America and objects from the discovery, contact, and colonial periods, especially for Florida, the Caribbean, and Mesoamerica. The program supports research projects in the disciplines of archaeology, history, cartography, epigraphy, linguistics, ethno-history, ethnography, bibliography and sociology, with particular emphasis on Florida, the circum-Caribbean region and Mesoamerica. Creative Capital/Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grants
Deadline: May 21, 2014 Award Amount: $3,000-$50,000
The Arts Writers Grant Program supports individual writers whose work addresses contemporary visual art through grants in the following categories: articles, blogs, books, new and alternative media, and short-form writing. It aims to support the broad spectrum of writing on contemporary visual art, from general-audience criticism to academic scholarship. Designed to encourage and reward writing about contemporary art that is rigorous, passionate, eloquent and precise, as well as to create a broader audience for arts writing, the Arts Writers Grant Program aims to strengthen the field as a whole and to ensure that critical writing remains a valued mode of engaging the visual arts. Grants are made directly to the applicant and therefore proposals do not require review by the Office of Sponsored Programs.

U.S. Department of State Creative Arts ExchangeDeadline: May 29, 2013 Award Amount: up to $1,500,000 Eligible Disciplines: Creative Arts

Creative Arts Exchange (CAE) initiatives create partnerships through artistic collaboration and professional development opportunities that foster mutual understanding between American and international participants. Under the 2014 Creative Arts Exchange, one cooperative agreement will be awarded under each theme, not to exceed the given amount for each of the following programs: American Music Abroad ($1,500,000); American Film Showcase ($1,500,000; and DanceMotion USA ($1,300,000). American Music Abroad: Proposals are invited to administer, design and implement AMA as a public diplomacy initiative to engage people and audiences overseas with little or no access to American cultural performances or American artists by presenting 10 tours of musical groups representing a wide range of American musical genres. The successful applicant will work with ECA and our U.S. Embassies overseas to design effective tours that both represent the excellence and diversity of American music overseas, and consist of a balanced mix of workshops, master classes, participation in public outreach events, and public performances. American Film Showcase: Proposals are invited to administer, design and implement AFS as a public diplomacy initiative to promote dialogue, to strengthen cultural connections and to empower emerging filmmakers and storytellers. The AFS program will comprise of approximately 50 leading American independent documentaries, narrative features and animated shorts with approximately 70 accompanying filmmakers and film experts traveling overseas to exhibit Showcase films, lead discussions and workshops tailored to U.S. Embassy public diplomacy goals. The successful applicant will work with ECA and our U.S. Embassies to design effective programs and cultural outreach to engage new and underserved audiences globally. DanceMotion USA: Proposals are invited to administer, design, and implement DanceMotion USA as a public diplomacy initiative to further mutual understanding between the United States and other countries through dance workshops and public performances in underserved communities overseas. The successful applicant will work with ECA and our U.S. Embassies overseas to design tours of approximately four weeks in each region to present workshops and master classes, participate in public outreach events, and create public performances depending on the programming variables. Society of Architectural History/Mellon Author AwardsDeadline: June 1, 2013 Award Amount: Up to $6,000 Eligible Disciplines: History of architecture, landscape architecture, urbanism and related subjects These awards will provide financial relief to early-career scholars who are publishing monographs on architectural history and the history of the built environment, and who are responsible for paying for rights and permissions for images in their publications. Through this grant, SAH will provide awards to emerging scholars with PhDs earned during the past six years to help defray the high costs of image licensing and reproduction for monographs on the history of the built environment. Awards will be made for print and digital publications. Applications will be considered only for book-length, scholarly manuscripts on architectural history and the history of the built environment that are currently under contract with a publisher. Awardees will be selected on the basis of the quality and demonstrated financial need for their project. For more information, see here .

National Endowment for the Humanities Bridging Cultures Through Film: International Topics
Deadline: June 11, 2014 Award Amount: Up to $650,000 over 1-3 years Eligible Disciplines: languages; linguistics; literature; history; jurisprudence; philosophy; archaeology; comparative religion; ethics; the history, criticism and theory of the arts; social sciences with humanistic content and methods This program supports films that examine international themes and subjects in the humanities. The films are meant to spark Americans' engagement with the broader world by exploring countries and cultures outside of the United States. The proposed film must be analytical and deeply grounded in humanities scholarship. It may be as short as thirty minutes or as long as a feature-length film. For more information, see here.

Digital Projects for the Public
Deadline: June 11, 2014 Award Amount: Up to $100,000 over 1-3 years Eligible Disciplines: languages; linguistics; literature; history; jurisprudence; philosophy; archaeology; comparative religion; ethics; the history, criticism and theory of the arts; social sciences with humanistic content and methods This program supports projects such as websites, mobile applications, games, and virtual environments that significantly contribute to the public's engagement with humanities ideas. Projects must be analytical and deeply grounded in humanities scholarship in a discipline such as history, religion, anthropology, jurisprudence, or art history. Digital Projects for the Public grants support projects that are largely created for digital platforms. Projects should demonstrate the potential to attract a broad, general audience. Projects can have specific targeted audiences, but they should also strive to cultivate a more inclusive audience. For more information, see here.
