Families and Friends of ODCA!
Happy New Year! We are happy to return to the everyday joys of working with your children for the 2015-2016 school year! As we anticipate a year ahead in a world that is changing drastically every day, we are privileged to be able to help guide the students to an understanding of the Lord's faithfulness and unchanging character that leads us to hope.
There are institutions of great learning in many places throughout this area of Pennsylvania but when the focus is on gaining knowledge only it can sadly lead to a lack of wisdom to guide one to know what to do with that knowledge. The scriptures tell us:
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight." Proverbs 9:10
It is the understanding of the Lord, His power, His love and His faithfulness that guides us with wisdom to lead lives that are fruitful, faithful, and filled with hope! The emptiness of education without this understanding leads to information without the insight that the Lord provides. We know there are sacrifices that are made in order for many families to provide a Christian education for their children but there are so many blessings in store in the future for the adults they will become with solid strength in a world that changes with the wind.
We appreciate your ongoing prayers through 2016 as we seek ways to remain faithful to our mission and grow to serve more of the Lord's children.
In His Service,
Meg McHale, M.Ed.
Principal

Outdoor Morning/Recess Policy
The winter chills are finally here. The colder weather means decisions daily about outdoor and indoor opportunities for the children. According to the Department of Education, there is no standard temperature recommendation for outdoor recess.
There are many benefits of outdoor physical activity for children, particularly in the colder weather.
-It can help them escape indoor germs and bacteria.
-It gives the opportunities for physical exercise.
-Provides opportunities for imaginative play and problem solving.
-It provides essential Vitamin D.
We want the children at ODCA to be healthy and safe. The outdoor policy will be as follows:
The teacher/principal will use a combination of temperature and wind chill to make the decision for outdoor play. If the combination is above 30 degrees, the students will be outside for the full recess unless there is precipitation. If the combination is between 25 - 30 degrees, the students will rotate 15 minutes outside and 15 minutes inside recess. If the wind chill/temperature combination is below 25 degrees, the students will remain inside for the full recess.
Morning arrival will follow the guidelines below:
If the wind chill/temperature combination is below 30 degrees, the students will remain in the gym for the morning arrival.
If the wind chill/temperature combination is 30 degrees or above, the students will remain outside for morning arrival unless there is precipitation.
A student with asthma may remain indoors in the colder temperatures at the request of the doctor.
Changes may be made on an individual basis at the discretion of the Principal.
Parents have the responsibility to be sure their child has the proper attire for outside activity. Coats, hats, gloves, leg coverings, etc. are necessary for children to retain their body warmth while playing in the colder temperatures.
Please be sure to label all belonging with your child's name.
