Dear Families and Friends of ODCA;

Every day there are exciting things happening at ODCA and new opportunities for your child to grow. Just this past week, the middle school students gave speeches to their peers that included using video and PowerPoint for Student Council elections. (see below for results of the elections). The second grade students have enjoyed visits with our school psychologist to learn how to handle social situations better. The kindergarten went on a trip to Merrymead Farm and the 8th grade students spent a day at Gettysburg. Our athletes are participating in a soccer tournament on Friday. While we are striving to provide the highest quality education possible for your child, we are also incorporating new experiences for them to grow spiritually, socially, physically and emotionally. It is important to us to help shape your child for all of what their future will hold academically as well as the challenges the world presents as followers of the Lord Jesus Christ. Working together with you, the parent, we trust the Lord will guide us in all they will need for their future ahead!

In His Service,

Meg McHale, Principal

FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT

Each month the school body is focusing on a "Fruit of the Spirit". Gal. 5:22-23. The "fruit" for the month of September was Love. At the end of the month, the teachers provided the names of students who are models of this quality or showed a sincere effort of growing in this area.

The students recognized in the month of September are:

LIVING NATIVATY
The Church of the Open Door has a yearly Living Nativity experience to share the true meaning of Christmas. Individuals perform in settings from the time of Christ's birth. ODCA families are invited and encouraged to join in the efforts this year. You can sign up to help set up, clean up, or to take part in the different sets. It would be a great way to start of the Christmas season together as a family. The Living Nativity is on Sat. Dec. 5th and Sunday, Dec. 6th. There are needs for volunteers from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Your participation would include an hour in one of the sets and a half hour before your assignment to get your costume and learn what your part would be in the set. (any speaking assignments are very minimal). As ODCA is a ministry of the Church of the Open Door, you will be able to use your volunteer time towards your service hours! Please contact Meg McHale, Principal at [email protected] if you are interested in participating in this wonderful tradition.

Gettysburg Field Trip
One of the traditions of the 8th grade class is to extend their learning about the Civil War with a trip to Gettysburg. After a visit to the Cyclorama and time in the Gettysburg museum, the group had a battlefield tour with our own personal tour guide, Mr. White. (Mrs. White's husband). He made the scenery come alive with general information and anecdotes. The students lined up to get a feel for Pickett's charge and climbed the rocks in Devil's Den. The highlight of the day was the chance to experience an actual Civil War soldier camp meal that included an information session with a soldier sharing about the life they experienced.
