OPEN DOOR CHRISTIAN ACADEMY
NEWS FROM OUR PRINCIPAL...
Dear Families and Friends of ODCA,

There has been a flurry of activity as we are making the final preparations for the students to arrive this Wednesday. We have joy in sharing that there are over 20 new families joining the ODCA family for the coming year with more phone calls and visits every day. We have been tremendously blessed over the summer with so many helping hands and hearts that are committed to making this school a place that is warm and welcoming for everyone. The classrooms are almost ready and the teachers will be spending Monday and Tuesday in orientation sessions. Please give us a call if you have any final questions for us as that first day approaches!

In His Service,
Meg McHale, Principal
Welcome Interim-Receptionist

Important Information...
Volunteers:

The state of Pennsylvania has enacted new laws that require all volunteers that work at schools to have background clearances done. This includes parents that will come in contact with other children during the school day, field trips, activities, etc. We value the volunteer time you are able to give and will be getting information to you during the first week of school to be able to guide you to fulfill the requirements.

We are looking for volunteers who can serve by helping with recess during the week, help in the front office in the morning or assist in other ways during the school day. Please let us know if you have an interest in sharing your time to support ODCA.

NEWS FOR SEPTEMBER

We have received information from a few of our sending school districts that their schools will be closed and they will not be providing bus service on Friday, September 25, 2015. The city of Philadelphia has made a vast plan to close down many streets in the city that weekend for the anticipated million visitors coming to see the Pope. The ODCA School Board has decided that the school will not open on that day on site as transportation may be difficult and not entirely safe for students and faculty that have to drive from those areas. We are planning to set up an "at home" school day for that day and during orientation next week the teachers will be trained to possibly make it a trial "cyber" day with the students checking in. That would be a way to enable us to take attendance and count it as a school day. Many schools are doing this for snow closing days so they don't lose a school day and the students continue to progress in their studies. We wanted to give you as much notice as possible to minimize any inconvenience this may cause you.

Lunch Program Reminders...

Both Hot Dogs and Hot Lunch programs will begin the week of September 14th.
Please provide a healthy lunch until our lunch programs begin. Lunches are available on  M-W-F for a reasonable price. Look for forms to come home in September.
