MORE Exciting News from the Principal!
  Greetings Families and Friends of ODCA:

         We are coming to the final stretch in our preparations for the start of the school year and we are excited!  We are looking forward to sharing the physical changes to the school in the halls and the front office.  There is still much to accomplish and the teachers have started preparing their rooms.   It has been a whirlwind of a summer and we appreciate all of the prayers that have been covering the school and summer staff.

NEW PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER AND ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

Mr. Barak Parsons has joined our team to teach the physical education classes and direct the athletic programs at ODCA.  Barak (pronounced Bareck) is a graduate of Cairn University with a BS in Physical Education and Health and Bible.  He has been the Elementary Health and PE teacher at Baptist Regional School in Haddon Heights for the past three years as well as coached varsity sports there.  He holds an ACSI teaching certification, EMT certification as well as being an AWANA leader in his church for more than seven years  Barak is looking forward to getting to know our students, our athletic programs and expanding what is already offered.  Mr. Parsons will be homeroom teacher for 8th grade, teaching K-12 PE classes and elementary computer classes. Be sure to welcome Mr. Parsons as a new member of the ODCA family.

      It is the goal of the leadership at ODCA to continually improve technology available for student use and growth in order to stay current with trends in education.  We have been blessed with the provision of 32 new computers so that each classroom will be able to have them for student use in the classrooms.  They have already been delivered and are being configured for our use.  Our board has also been pursuing leads for more donations in the near future!

PA BUDGET NEWS

     
    Private schools in PA receive funding for textbooks through the state budget.  This is a significant support to our academic programs in acquiring quality textbooks for our students.  The budget has not been passed in the state yet so the schools are not able to place textbook orders that rely on state funding.  We are praying every day for news so that the process of replacing our science texts with the new curriculum can begin.  From order to receipt can take up to a month after the passing of the budget. I simply want to keep you informed so that you are aware of the situation and can join me in prayer that it will get resolved soon.  We are committed to providing an excellent education for your child.  In the elementary classes, they usually teach social studies the first half of the year and science the second half.  We are changing that this year to insure they have both subjects covered all year but they will begin with social studies until the new science texts arrive.  In the middle school grades, Mr. Benbow can teach the first unit using support of the previous textbooks (which we still have on hand) as well as other supplemental supports that he would use anyway.  We will keep you posted as this situation is resolved. 
 

POSITIONS OPEN

 

Receptionist:  Part time position to be the first responder in the front office.  Answering phones, greeting and servicing the needs of families and visitors, and other vital responsibilities to keep the office running smoothly.  Must be able to multi-task and provide a welcoming environment for all who enter.  Hours are from 12:00noon to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.  If interested, fill out an application in the front office or email a resume to mmchale@opendoorchristianacademy.com.

 


OPEN SIS SCHOOL PRO

Many hours have been spent over the summer inputting all of the student and family information in our new school data system.  The student schedules are now being put in and the data system will keep track of all attendance, grades, and other information.  Parents and students will be given a login during the beginning of the school year where they will have access to information such as student classes, grades, discipline records, and calendar activities.  Teachers will be able to use it for many other functions.  We are very excited to make this informational convenience available to all families to support increased communication.

A big thank you to everyone who volunteered time over the summer to help with everything we are doing to make ODCA the best it can be for our students.  It takes many hands to move a school forward and even a few hours with a rag, mop, paint brush or stapler can make a big impact.  If you have some time to share in the last week of preparations, please contact the office as there are many things still to be done.  As always, we ask you to pray as the teachers return and we get ready for the first day of school, Wednesday, August 26th!
