Uh Oh!!!! The Airlines Damaged My Wheelchair (or Scooter). Now What????
If you've been to one of my travel workshops, you may remember me mentioning Global Repair Group. Let's talk about this resource. Global Repair Group contracts with several major airlines to provide service to you, the passenger, if your mobility equipment arrives at its destination in any shape other that what it departed in. In other words, broken or not operating properly. Regardless of an airline's contract with GRG, you can contact them directly if you are not receiving the service you expect. Their toll free number is 877.852.1576. They will find a repair facility to fix your equipment, they will provide a loaner and they will assist with the insurance claim. I recently returned from a meeting of the External Disability Advisory Committee for Virgin America. As always, the meeting was enlightening, educational and fun! I want to share some great news with you...Virgin America will be receiving some new planes to fly their new route....San Francisco to Honolulu and Maui beginning fall 2015. These planes will have true accessible bathrooms! No more needing to dehydrate or use catheters for long flights. Bathrooms can be accessed via on board wheelchairs (similar to aisle chairs used for boarding passengers with no mobility). These bathrooms are the size of two normal ones with a removable wall making them larger.  Easy Access is thinking about a group land adventure to Hawaii in 2016 or 17. Everyone would meet in San Francisco for a few days and then fly to Hawaii. Who's interested? If enough people are, we can make this a reality. Oahu and Maui are very accessible.
