Dear Community Leader,

I love this time of year, because there are so many opportunities to celebrate our students and their successes.

Just this week, our academic UIL team clinched their second district championship in the last three years. We have students who will be moving onto the next level in events as varied as poetry, computer science and accounting. In all, six teams and seven individual students will be competing at the regional meet in Waco later this month.

At the SkillsUSA State Conference last weekend, our high school students were tremendous representatives of the career and technical education program. Three students received recognition for their automotive technology projects. Our forensic science and business procedures teams both brought home bronze medals. One student placed second in screen printing technology, and another scored a nearly perfect score on the residential wiring test placing first in that competition. For the third year in a row, our construction trades students were state champions and are headed to nationals where they'll be joined by our state champion audio/radio production team.

Those aren't the only students who will be competing at a national conference. BHS sophomore Kadyn Utley has qualified to compete at the Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference, which will be held in Boston next month. At the state contest, Kadyn placed third in fundamental accounting and sixth in financial math.

Three BHS students and seven New Tech students have qualified to compete at Texas History Day later this month in Austin.

In fine arts, we have two students whose work will be exhibited at the State Visual Arts Scholastic Event. Our one-act play won the district championship, and the Magic Belles were national grand champions at the HTEDance Nationals held in San Antonio last weekend.

Our recent athletic results include two girls, who medaled at the state powerlifting meet last month; a district championship in girls golf; and three students, who qualified for the regional tennis meet. Baseball, softball, and track and field teams are well on their way to great seasons. Already this year, 20 student athletes have signed letters of intent to compete in college, and next Wednesday, four more seniors will be signing their letters.

The list literally goes on and on...

We're blessed to live in a community that supports our students. Their success wouldn't be possible without the support of the Big Red Community, and their success is something that we can all be proud of.

Sincerely,

Susan Kincannon, Ed.D.
Superintendent

Pre-kindergarten registration for the 2016-2017 school year begins April 11.

The pre-kindergarten program is open to children who will be four years old on or before September 1 and who either live in Belton ISD or are the child of a district employee.

To be eligible for free enrollment, students must also qualify for free or reduced school meals, be from a military family, be from a family in transition, meet language criteria, or have been in the conservatorship of DFPS. For the second year, there will also be a limited number of tuition-supported seats available for children who do not meet the state's eligibility criteria for free enrollment.

Message from the Board President:

Our Schools, Our Community!

The success of our students in so many different areas is something we can all celebrate. Our students, their families, and our teachers and coaches are all working very hard to accomplish amazing things. And that celebration is shared with our community because the support our schools and students receive is a significant factor in their success.

The mission of Belton ISD is to provide an education that challenges all of our students to excel. Our mission is not to just meet minimum standards. In order to excel our students must have opportunities to find their strengths, develop them, and then perform at high levels.

Our Big Red Community has invested in high quality faculty and staff, facilities, equipment, and resources to provide opportunities for our students to succeed. In addition, our community partners are making a difference by sharing their expertise via mentorship and training that helps our students prepare for competition. The success of our students at SkillsUSA and Mock Trial are great examples of the positive effects of that extra support from our extraordinary community.

Our many booster clubs provide the extra help, support and encouragement to provide great opportunities for our students. Two recent experiences exemplify the kind of support provided by our booster club volunteers. A large group of volunteers helped us host a record number of teams and participants in the recent Big Red Relays. The Marching 100 spring break trip to Disney World included extra challenges for our volunteer chaperones, but they all went above and beyond to keep our kids safe and provide them with a wonderful experience.

It takes a supportive community to have strong schools, because our kids need our support. We are thankful for that ongoing extraordinary level of support. Together, we will continue to celebrate the success of our students, our schools, and our community!

I Love Belton!
