Dear Community Leader,

On the first day of school, there were 10,005 students in attendance in Belton ISD. That number has grown each day as new students have registered. As of yesterday afternoon, our enrollment was 10,231. This is an increase of nearly 500 students over last year. New construction, a geographically large district (197 square miles), great communities, and a strong school system continue to drive our growth. This is an exciting time to be a part of the Big Red community!

As I have visited campuses over the last few days, I have been most impressed with our staff who are working so diligently to ensure that our school year gets off to a great start. Our teachers are already focusing on core instruction and our children are adapting to their new routines. The tone of the year has been set and it promises to be a great one!

Sincerely,

Susan Kincannon, Ed.D.

Superintendent

Message from the Board President:

Belton is the place to be!

A smooth beginning to the school year does not happen by accident.  It is the result of good planning, strong leaders, and preparation by our administrators, teachers and staff.  We are fortunate in Belton to have a great team working together to provide opportunities for our students to succeed and excel!

Another example of good planning was evident as we approved a balanced budget that will meet the needs of our students, with the added bonus of a tax rate reduced below what was previously voter approved.  In addition to reducing the tax rate by 7.1 cents, it is notable that 61% of property owners in BISD also saw their appraisal either reduced or unchanged, meaning that most will see a significant reduction in their tax bill this year.

We are also fortunate to have a community that supports our students in so many ways.  I like how Coach Rodney Southern is using the phrase "Pulling Together" as a theme for our Tigers this year, emphasizing the importance of everyone doing their part to find success.  Jill Ross recently described our special education program with the phrase "Learning and Serving the Belton Way."  However you say it one thing is certain, families continue to move here because Belton is the place to be!

I Love Belton!
