Home Maintenance Tips
for the Winter Season
Fall is a perfect time for seasonal maintenance tasks to keep your NSP home in perfect condition. Changes in temperatures and weather can impact how well your home ages. Start now to keep all components of your home running smoothly to avoid future costly repairs.
1.) Check your roof/gutters/downspouts:
Your roof is often forgotten about because it is not at eye level. Clear leaves and dirt from gutters and examine downspouts for damage or loose pieces. Check shingles and any openings in the roof, such as skylights, for leaking problems.
2.) Examine your property grounds:
Check driveways and walkways for cracks and loose paver material. Fixing small cracks is cost effective and prevents larger repairs down the road.
3.) Change filters:
When have you last changed your air conditioner filter? Changing the air filters regularly will keep your system running smoothly and save a lot of money. Filters in stove vents and clothes dryers will also need to get checked. Clean air filters will also keep your family healthier.

4.) Repair leaky faucets & toilets:
Did you know how much water can get wasted from leaky faucets and broken toilets fixtures? Examine all faucets in the kitchen, bathrooms, the utility room, and outdoors and make sure that your toilet doesn't waste any water. The money spent to fix them could be less than the extra charges on your water bill.
5.) Drain your hot water heater:
Especially with hard water, sediments could be building up in your tank. Now is a perfect time to drain your tank and make sure rust is not developing.
6.) Check windows and doors:
The majority of conditioned air in your home is lost through the windows and doors. Go through your home and open each window to ensure the seal and caulking around the window frame are in good condition.
7.) Adjust your irrigation system:
Consider having your lawn irrigation system checked and adjusted for the winter season. Repair any broken sprinkler heads and make sure to detect any line breaks. Fixing it now will ensure a beautiful lawn throughout the winter.
Use these tips to get a jump start on your winter home maintenance. Your home will thank you!
