The backbone of the Lee County NSP program are without doubt the licensed and insured building contractors who transform foreclosed properties into truly good buys.
Almost forty contractors have been on the list of contractors approved for bidding on NSP projects and nineteen more general, building and residential contractors attended the contractor workshops this year. Now, more than fifty contractors participate in Lee County's housing rehab and weatherization programs, including the NSP.

Michael Reglar Carpentry Contracting has worked on several NSP homes over the past three years. The properties have been complete renovations from the roof down to the flooring.
Karin Reglar, Vice President of the small residential business, works alongside her husband Michael on many of the properties. She has found work on NSP properties to be very satisfying. "Working for the Lee County NSP is a pleasure," she said,"We appreciate the fact that the rehabilitation specialist in charge of purchasing and putting the bids together are contractors. That makes a huge difference. They put their knowledge and care into each single rehab."
Michael Reglar adds, "Being a Lee County NSP contractor has enabled our company to outsource trades. Unfortunately, many people just want to hire the big, well-known companies. We take pride in knowing that every subcontractor is a small, independent, local company. After all, that is why this program was put into place. The program is helping the community tremendously: it gets small businesses working in a tough economy, strengthens neighborhoods, and helps prospective buyers become home owners."
The time to it takes to complete renovation depends in large on the home's initial condition. Rehab works takes from 30 days to over 120 days. Homes that are ready for purchase are listed on the NSP website.
