PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear SIOR Colleagues:

This is my last message of 2014, as my term as the Chicago Chapter President is winding down. I want to begin by saying how truly honored I have been to serve as President of this great chapter. The chapter's success would be impossible without the pro-active support of the Executive Board, Committee Chairs, our Platinum Sponsors, and the excellence of our membership. A special "shout out" also goes to Joanne Works, our outstanding Executive Director, whose loyalty and dedication is most appreciated!  I would like to thank all of you for helping to make this past year an especially rewarding one for me!

Please join me in reflecting back and remembering some highlights of a few of the exciting programs and events in 2014 that helped to make our Chapter the best: "Chapter Transaction Awards"; "Annual Golf Outing"; "our first Midwest Regional Networking Event"; "Young Industrial Broker's Recruiting Reception"; "Platinum Appreciation Reception with guest speaker John F. McDonough", President and CEO of the Chicago Blackhawk's"; and, a "luncheon with special guest speaker and newly-elected Governor Bruce Rauner".

In addition to the Chapter events, SIOR National holds a Spring/Fall conference every year. If you haven't attended a National conference, plan to make it a resolution in 2015. You won't be disappointed.   This past October, more than 1,000 people attended the national conference in Nashville from all over the world. The educational workshops, programs and networking events were phenomenal. One of the highlights was keynote speaker Diana Nyad's presentation about her life as a swimmer, and finally reaching her goal of swimming from Cuba to Key West after numerous failed attempts. Her keynote message "Never Give Up" - "It is never too late to reach your goals"!

Our Holiday Party is this Friday, December 5th and you must be registered to attend. This event could not be possible without our host Bert Rance, and the continued generosity of our sponsor, Northern Builders.   Please join me in thanking them on Friday for making this event a memorable one year after year.

Once again, thank you all your generous support and the privilege to have served as the 2014 Chicago Chapter President.

Best wishes to all for a happy and healthy holiday season, and prosperous New Year!

Warm regards,

 Elise A. Couston, SIOR

A Part of the Winning Team:
Blackhawks President/CEO Joins SIOR For Chat

The Chicago Chapter of the Society of Industrial and Office REALTORS® (SIOR) welcomed John McDonough, President and CEO of the Chicago Blackhawks, to a fireside chat with members for a conversation about how to build a winning team in sports and in business.

Mr. McDonough, who spent 24 years with the Chicago Cubs, left the baseball club for the Chicago Blackhawks in 2007, becoming its President. He was promoted to President and CEO four years later. In addition to bringing back Hall of Fame players to be team ambassadors, he signed a TV and radio agreement with WGN and Comcast SportsNet as well as launched the popular NHL Winter Classic.

The Blackhawks won a Stanley Cup championship in 2010 (nearly 50 years after its previous Cup championship) and won another title in 2013. Under Mr. McDonough's leadership, the Blackhawks organization has seen its season ticketholder base triple with the club leading the league in average season attendance each of the past four years. The team moved from 118th to 16th in ESPN Magazine's "Ultimate Standings" and Forbes Magazine called the team "The Greatest Sports-Business Turnaround Ever."
