PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE   NEWS

We’re now four months through 2013 and we’re pleased to report on several great recently held and upcoming events of note to you, our chapter members:

  • At our April 23rd monthly luncheon, Bob Dold, former U.S. Congressman from the 10th District, gave us his unvarnished vision and comments as to the state of our state, his optimism for the future and the tough choices still looming for our state’s leaders. We brokers are optimists by nature, so we’re betting the former Congressman was hitting on all cylinders!
  • The SIOR Spring World Conference in Indian Wells, CA was a fantastic experience. The two keynote speakers delved into the "secret sauce" behind Disneyworld's staff development and training, as well as the finer points of best-in-class communication techniques.
  • The Second Annual Fun Shoot will be held on Friday, May 17th, at the Deer Creek Hunt Club near New Buffalo, MI.  Several Chicago Chapter members have signed up for this joint gathering between the Chicago, Michigan & Indiana/Kentucky chapters, but there’s still room for more.  If you don’t have one of the previously emailed invitations, register directly with Sherry Mallamo at sherry.mallamo@cassidyturley.com or call her at 317-639-0539.
  • Our May 28th monthly luncheon will feature Gary Fencik, former ’85 Chicago Bears Super Bowl Champion standout, who will have great comments and insight into his playing days, plus his life after pro football in real estate deals, private equity markets and other pursuits.  Be sure to put this date on your calendar and plan to attend.
  • A fun member recruiting event will be held on June 13th at a bowling venue in Lincoln Park.  We’re expecting a good group of rising brokers interested in joining SIOR plus some current members to enjoy some fun on the lanes and great camaraderie. Details will be emailed shortly.

As announced at the last Chapter luncheon, our Social Media committee, led by JD Salazar, SIOR, with tremendous support from our Executive Director, Joanne Works, has been hard at work in overhauling our Chicago Chapter website.  It is live now (at least in a beta version), so I strongly encourage you to check it out at www.siorchicago.org , take it for a spin and let us know what you think.  Your honest comments and suggestions as to the new functionality, possibilities for generating new content by and for our members and branding opportunities are key to its ongoing success!

As always, our sincere thanks to our 24 Platinum Sponsors for 2013.  Check out the three sponsor profiles in this newsletter, and be sure to go out of your way at a chapter event or on your own to thank them for their efforts and ongoing support of our chapter.

TRUNK SCHOLARSHIP

It’s time, SIORs, to begin our support of the 2013 Ada S. McKinley Trunk Scholarship Program!

A new class of students will be entering college in Fall 2013 and they stand in need of our generous donations!  Over the past two years, the SIOR Chicago Chapter has embraced the goals of the Ada S. McKinley Trunk Scholarship Program resulting in the generous underwriting of 20 trunks for first-year, inner-city college-bound students preparing them to leave home and embark on their college education. Each “Trunk Scholarship” donation of $500 provides these financially-challenged students with basic dormitory room items such as bedding, furnishings, school supplies, and personal toiletries that would otherwise not be obtainable by these students.

Please watch your email for more information on how you and your firm can participate. We look forward to meeting our goal of underwriting 20 trunks in 2013 from the SIOR Chicago Chapter in support of these well-deserving college-bound students. Let’s make it happen!
