It's wind down time, and I love it.
Children going on to a new school year have much less pressure with holiday homework. This is the holiday of growth. As many t parents will agree, come January we notice much greater physical development. In fact the risk for early school uniform shoppers is that in January the new stuff is already too small! So shop with care.
Employees are also slowing down. Much like the summer months in the northern hemisphere, things grind down considerably during the month of December in Kenya, and even the most die-hard workaholic will take the Christmas break.
This year is significant as our country celebrates 50 years of independence. I can't help but marvel at how time works: My mum was less than 30 50 years ago. She has watched me grow, and now sees my children, and theirs too. She experienced the era of segregation, and celebrated the first independence event. She saved using a pass book, and today we have Mshwari, online banking, ATM cards. How much of this did she ever imagine at that point?
I can't help but wonder what awaits me, if I am blessed with years like hers. What will my contribution to the blessing of 'more' be? What will you do with yours?
As we slow down to enjoy the celebrations of the season, I am taking a break from doing this newsletter until January.
Thanks for reading, and for sharing. It wouldn't be the same without you. Take a look below at our calendar of activities for 2015 and remember to mark your diary.
Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, I wish you mellow reflections and happy times with family and friends. If you have been holding back for whatever reason, this is a good time to reach out. It's a good excuse to start again. If you have been closed off and distant, it's time to open up and get closer. There's no time like now to be generous and gentle, as much with yourself as with others.
Merry Christmas. May Peace be with you. And Happy 50th Kenya.
