Over the last four weeks we have focused on 4 questions that could change your life. The first question is about articulating or reviewing your vision. The second gets you reflecting on the inner work that needs doing in order to clear the path to that vision. The third looks to have you prepare a plan of action that includes appropriating suitable support. The fourth will get you to review potential obstacles as represented by the fear you feel.
The fifth question is: what are you going to do now?
This question is designed to get you thinking about where you are putting your resources. Are you spending most of your time on actions that contribute to getting you closer to your vision? Where are your money and energy going? What do you mostly think about?
It also encourages you to understand that no experience is wasted. And if you can see your current circumstances as part of the journey you must take, you will be more motivated to make the best of it. So you are not living in the house of your dreams - it could be an opportunity to spend less on rent as you save towards that dream. So you haven't started your ideal business - it could be an opportunity to learn the ropes before you do that.
Critically, this question seeks to gauge and gain your commitment to the future you desire, starting now.
What can you do to ensure you stay on track with the actions you have chosen? Here are a few things to consider:
1. Be consciously in the present. There is an inevitable 'tension' between what you do now and the future. Now is what you have, yet if you do not use it well the full potential of your future may not be realised. You can control and choose what you do now, and it will impact the next moment, but you don't know what the next moment will bring. When the next moment comes it is too late to have done something in the previous moment because it is past. So do the best now, purposefully, because that is the extent of what you have.
2. Be accountable to others, but more so, to yourself. We talked about accountability partners, but the real person to hold accountable is yourself. If the actions you commit to do not mean enough for you to invest yourself in them, it doesn't matter who your accountability partner is. And if what you chose to do is constantly overshadowed by other things, then you should sort the other things first. Whatever you choose to do it should be top of your list. And it's up to you to put it there
3. Start small. This is not to say you cannot choose to start big, but often we overlook the small steps that get us moving in the direction we want because we are focused on, and scared of, the big steps. Small could be that first phone call you make to ask for information. It could be the strokes you type into your computer to search. It could me the walk you make to go see something, or the first page you read to learn something new. It could be the notebook you buy to jot down your ideas, or the clips you cut out to start building your vision board. It's the first shilling you save towards your dream. From a tiny seed the mighty acorn grows. Small is the seed you plant today.
May you succeed.
