Nicole Doran
AP Scholars Named
Seventy-four students at Kenston High School have earned the designation of AP Scholar by the College Board in recognition of their achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program exams.

National AP Scholar, Nicole Doran earned an average score of 4 or higher on a five-point scale on all AP Exams taken and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.

The College Board's Advanced Placement Program offers students the opportunity to take challenging college-level courses while still in high school.  In addition, they can receive college credit, advanced placement or both for successful performance on the AP exams.  About eighteen percent of the more than 1.6 million high school students took AP exams and performed at a sufficiently high level to merit the recognition of AP Scholar.  See the complete list.

Transportation Site Concept Plan
at Gardiner School
BUS GARAGE PROJECT
After the Bond Issue/Operating Levy passed in May, the Board of Education contracted with Fanning & Howey, an architectural firm, to determine the most fiscally responsible and viable plan for the upgrade and improvement of two of the district's Capital Improvement Projects: Transportation Maintenance facility and Stadium.

Work sessions have been held with the Board, architect and district personnel to determine plans for the maintenance facility/service garage and bus fleet parking.  The current plan explores relocating the bus garage and fleet of 48 buses and ten vans to Gardiner Early Learning Center that was closed in 2013.

On September 1, District officials met with the neighbors of Gardiner School to share the plans for the relocation of the Bus Garage.  The district would like to move the Transportation Department from the center of the campus to address safety concerns, provide additional parking and utilize Gardiner School.  The plans include building a four-bay service garage including a washing station and keeping all of Gardiner for the expansion of Kenston Community Education and community programs.  Residents expressed several concerns which we will continue to explore while working with the architect.
GUEST WIFI - CONNECT BLUE
Over the summer, we updated our WIFI network. If you're a guest user, you may use our network as well. This is handy for parents or visitors, or attendees during sporting events.

The guest login works a little differently:
    1. Make sure your device is WIFI enabled, and connect to the KENSTON network.
    2. Once connected, open a web browser, and navigate to any website that does not require a secure connection, like KenstonLocal.org.
    3. You will be prompted with a new splash screen for Kenston's WIFI, asking for credentials.
    4. Select 'Guest' login, and provide your information like name, and cell phone number.
    5. Our system will text an access code to the cell phone number provided, and after entering that, the guest will now have limited access to our network and internet.
    6. After 24 hours, the guest login session will reset, and the guest will have to authenticate again.

SCHOOL BUS SAFETY
As students return to school, we need your help to keep kids safe as they get on the busBelieve it or not, children are safer traveling in school buses than in any other type of motor vehicle. However, every year, school bus accidents happen because many automobile drivers forget about some school bus safety basics.

Ohio has laws that require all vehicles to come to a halt when a school bus has its stop sign out and its red lights flashing. These signals indicate that children are getting on or off the bus. When you're sharing the road with school buses, remember these rules:
      • DO NOT pass a school bus until the red lights and signals are turned off.
      • ALWAYS stop when traveling in the same direction as the bus.
      • NEVER pass on the right side of the bus. Besides being illegal, this is where children enter and exit.
SAFER SCHOOLS 24/7 TIPLINE: 844-SAFEROH
Kenston Schools and the Ohio Department of Education have partnered with Ohio Homeland Security to offer all Ohio school districts a safe and secure tip line.  The 24/7 tip line can be anonymous, or callers have the option to leave contact information.  Any threatening information or suspicious activity will be assessed by the Homeland Security team to determine the level of the threat.   If it's determined to be a high-level threat, they will communicate directly with local law enforcement and the school district.

Information that is only school related such as bullying, social media issues or other school related information will be routed directly to the school administrators to address.
