Dear 5th Grade Parents,
It was very nice to meet so many of you at last week's 6th Grade Parent Orientation. Middle School is an exciting place to learn and grow. Our staff is looking forward to your child being with us for the next three years.
At last evening's Board Meeting, a question came up regarding the math courses at the Middle School. I wanted to follow up with you to clarify the math curriculum. Kenston Middle School follows all the Ohio Required Learning Standards including the Math Standards. The textbooks we use in 6th grade are:
-
College Preparatory Mathematics (CMP): Core Connections, Course 2
-
(½ of it for the grade 6 accelerated/Challenge students in addition to Course 1)
Questions have arisen on the Course Placement Form that came home in your child's Friday Folder regarding the music course selection. Your student has the option of selecting a music elective for sixth grade (Chorus OR Band). While music is not required of every student it is certainly encouraged.
In the upcoming weeks, we will be sending home information about your student's visit to the Middle School on Thursday, May 14th. At the end of the year, you will receive the Supply List and the Summer Reading List in your child's Friday Folder.
I look forward to working with you and your child as they transition to the Middle School. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have any further questions or concerns at (440) 543-8241 or via e-mail at pat.brockway@kenstonapps.org.
Sincerely,
Patricia Brockway
