Welcome to
First United Methodist Church
of Michigan City, Indiana
Greetings!
From Bible Gateway, "Questions Answered",
How does a person meditate on God's Word?
Meditation is a combination of reviewing, repeating, reflecting, thinking, analyzing, feeling and even enjoying.
It is a physical, intellectual, and emotional activity.
It involves our whole being.
In some ways, meditation does not easily fit into Western culture. We value action and busyness more than stopping and considering. The author of this psalm was from another time and culture, one with a tradition that valued meditation. As a result, meditation came more naturally for him and others with his Middle Eastern background. We have to overcome some cultural obstacles to learn to meditate.
There are many ways to meditate on God's Word. Some possibilities include:
(1) Take time to read a verse or passage over and over. (2) Begin to memorize all or part of it.
(3) Listen...quiet your heart to allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you through God's Word.
(4) Consider how it fits with the rest of the Bible and life in general.
(5) Become emotionally involved...allow yourself to feel what God feels, his desires expressed through his words. (6) Move from meditation to application...connect your thoughts to action. Consider how the truth and power of the Word of God should affect your behavior.

Clothes Line Request
Pastor Gwen has been speaking about "callings". I am hoping someone feels that "calling" to help with the Clothes Line Ministry during the January thru March when my husband and I will be with his mother in Florida. Activities necessary include:
1. Seeing that cards are placed on the display.
(Usually the office volunteers do this.)
2. Recording all filled requests.
3. Delivering bags to the school office.
4. If no one takes a card, purchasing the clothes, delivering, and turning receipt in to the church office .OR you can use a Clothes Line dedicated scrip card for purchases.
This is a very simple process and a very important outreach ministry. I am hoping someone feels the call to keep the Clothes Line Ministry functioning in my absence. Dottie Evett

Willing to Give Time One Sunday a Month?
We need your help! If you can give one Sunday every four to six weeks, please give us a try. Read a Bible Story to the children, do a craft, a science project, show a Bible video. We have lots of materials to choose from. You name the Sunday.
If you want more information, please call Joyce Dalton @ 874-5832 or leave your name and phone number in the Church office and we will get back to you. Please give prayerful thought to helping build the future of our Church.
