Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for Transformation of the World
|
|
Welcome to
First United Methodist Church
of Michigan City
Greetings!
As stated above, the purpose of the United Methodist Church and all of its local congregations is "Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for Transformation of the World".
To achieve progress toward this purpose, MC1stUMC has been blessed with facilities and resources, including our pastor who is charged with shepherding our church and its congregation. However, progress toward our purpose and utilization of our blessings must be examined periodically so as to ensure not being taken for granted. One way this examination is done is in the annual reporting to Charge Conference.
Vital Church Goals - Spiritual Guides for Our Future
Vital congregations engage disciples in the five practices listed below. In the Charge Conference Reporting, each congregation must identify its commitment in each of these areas by quantifying in the following categories for the past year and the several years to come:
1. Disciples Worship:
Average worship attendance
2. Disciples Make New Disciples:
Number of people who will join by profession of faith
3. Disciples Engage in Growing as Disciples:
Small groups,Sunday school classes,Bible studies
4. Disciples Engage in Missions:
Number of people from our congregation engaged in local, national, and international mission / outreach
5. Disciples Give to Missions:
Total amount given by our congregation to support benevolent and charitable ministries (includes our conference tithes and district support and support for all United Methodist and non-United Methodist organizations active in work such as advocacy, education, health, justice, mercy, outreach, and welfare anywhere in the world.
Now that you know what we're expected to be doing with our blessings, how well do you think we're doing?

Willing to Give Time One Sunday a Month?
We need your help! If you can give one Sunday every four to six weeks, please give us a try. Read a Bible Story to the children, do a craft, a science project, show a Bible video. We have lots of materials to choose from. You name the Sunday.
If you want more information, please call Joyce Dalton @ 874-5832 or leave your name and phone number in the Church office and we will get back to you. Please give prayerful thought to helping build the future of our Church.

Church Picnic and Potluck at Creek Ridge
This past Sunday we held our annual church picnic and what a beautiful day it was. The sun was shining, but not too hot, the breeze was just right, and the outdoor setting was perfect. With folding chairs in hand about 75 of our church family gathered to celebrate Sunday services at Creek Ridge County Park.
Pastor Gwen had a wonderful message for us to enjoy and, of course, the lunch afterwards shows that we Methodists do enjoy our food and fellowship under God's beautiful blue sky.
We missed those that could not attend but hope you plan on being there next year. Karen Durnell
