Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for Transformation of the World

Welcome to

First United Methodist Church

of Michigan City

Greetings!

Prayer is the key to the heart of God.  Prayer is the only way to a real and personal relationship with God.

  • Pray acknowledging that He is God and that you accept His gracious gift, Jesus Christ, as your Lord and Savior (Genesis 17:1, Romans 6:16-18).
  • Pray confessing our sins and accepting His forgiveness (Romans 3:23-26).
  • Pray that His will be done in our lives, that His Holy Spirit guide us, and that we be filled with the fullness of all God has for us.
  • Pray for (spiritual) understanding and wisdom (Proverbs 2:6-8, 3:5).
  • Pray with thanksgiving for all the ways He blesses us (Philippians 4:6).
  • Pray when we are ill, lonely, going through trials or interceding for others (James 5:14-16, 2 Corinthians 12:9-10).
  • Pray to worship Him (Psalm 95:6-7).

There is nothing we can't pray about.  There are abundant references to prayer in the Bible.  The Bible tells us to "pray without ceasing" and "in everything give thanks to the Lord." When we choose to have a positive attitude, we realize we have received many blessings for which to give God praise.

We find intimacy with God through communicating with Him in prayer.  We go to Him in faith, knowing that He hears and answers all our prayers (1 John 5:14).  Be confident that God knows and wants what is best for us; so ask that His will be done in all we seek from Him. Then, thank Him for it, even though it hasn't happened yet.

Ushers & Greeters
There will be a meeting for ushers and greeters on Saturday, September 8, at 10:00am at the church.

If you are presently an usher or greeter or would be willing to be an usher or greeter, please attend this meeting.

Pastor Gwen will be leading the meeting and has some information she would like to share with you.

If you have questions, call the church office or contact Maryann Cross at 879-0147.
UnBirthday Celebration

Join us all for the Unbirthday Celebration in the Community Room on Sunday, September 9, at 9:25 a.m. in the Sunday School Hour.

You will have the opportunity to meet everyone who has the same birthday month as you have and you can decorate your own cupcake.  Don't worry if you don't want a cupcake - come for coffee.

Let's pack the downstairs and have our friends from both services attend.

If you like to bake and would like to make cupcakes for our party - don't frost them - call Judy Commers, at 219-326-0597.

How many people can the downstairs hold?  Our goal is to set a record number of people.  Please don't miss this opportunity.

Judy Commers, Chairperson, Nurturing Committee

ENDOWMENT FUND GRANT INVITATIONS

Application forms for Endowment "Request for distribution of Fund Income" are available in the church office and are due no later than September 10.  Any recognized and functioning church group may present a request within established guidelines.

The purpose of the Endowment Fund is to provide a means to fulfill special needs of the church in Christian Ministry and Mission.  It is not intended that the Endowment Fund be used for the ongoing operating expenses of the church but rather provide funding for special projects, programs, or needs that arise outside of the general budget.

Recommendations of the Endowment Fund Committee are subject to Charge Conference approval.

An inquisitive mind and a Bible are requested.

We will meet in the library from 9:30am to 10:30am every Sunday.

God will bless you for all your efforts and faithfulness, JC Sells

Golf Anyone? Golf

Let's renew this fun event!  It will be held at Muni-North Course on Sunday, September 23, at 12:30pm.  Best ball twosome will be $5.00 per couple.  There will be prizes.  If enough people are interested, we will go out for supper after the golf is finished and award prizes.  The sign up sheet is in the narthex.  Let's have a great turnout for this event.  If you have any questions, please call Wanda Jones at 872-1724.

School Supplies
Our church is sponsoring
a classroom supply drive.

This year we will collect supplies for teachers to give to students as the need arises.

Please help support this ministry by bringing any of the following items:  Crayons, glue sticks, dry erase markers, pink erasers, scissors, 3-hole notebook paper, pocket folders, pencils, pencil boxes, spiral notebooks, facial tissue, index cards (3x5), calculators, markers (washable).
Willing to Give Time One Sunday a Month?
We need your help!  If you can give one Sunday every four to six weeks, please give us a try. Read a Bible Story to the children, do a craft, a science project, show a Bible video.  We have lots of materials to choose from. You name the Sunday.

If you want more information, please call Joyce Dalton @ 874-5832 or leave your name and phone number in the Church office and we will get back to you. Please give prayerful thought to helping build the future of our Church.
Church Family
If you have a member of your family taken to the hospital or a nursing facility, please let Pastor Gwen know by calling the church office at 872-7200 as soon as possible.

Due to privacy policy, the hospital no longer calls the church to tell us if someone from this church has been admitted to the hospital.

It is very important to Pastor Gwen to know when someone is admitted to the hospital or nursing facility in order to minister to the needs of the family member admitted and to the rest of the family.
