Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for Transformation of the World

Welcome to

First United Methodist Church

of Michigan City

Greetings!

As future generations read the archival entries about the church, the living body of Christ in the world today, will they be blessed by the perseverance of the faithful?   Will future generations learn to bridge the gaps in differences of opinions in order to promote the Kingdom of God in the world?  Children, grandchildren, the un-churched are watching.  John Wesley sacrificed the praises of others in order to open minds and hearts to the revelation of God's command to love.   It is time to build up one another rather than to be torn down by those considered the church.

"6Now you, Tattenai, governor of the province Beyond the River, Shethar-Bozenai, and you, their associates, the envoys in the province Beyond the River, keep away; 7let the work on this house of God alone; let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews rebuild this house of God on its site. 8Moreover, I make a decree regarding what you shall do for these elders of the Jews for the rebuilding of this house of God: the cost is to be paid to these people, in full and without delay, from the royal revenue, the tribute of the province Beyond the River. 9Whatever is needed - young bulls, rams, or sheep for burnt-offerings to the God of heaven, wheat, salt, wine, or oil, as the priests in Jerusalem require - let that be given to them day by day without fail, 10so that they may offer pleasing sacrifices to the God of heaven, and pray for the life of the king and his children. 11Furthermore, I decree that if anyone alters this edict, a beam shall be pulled out of the house of the perpetrator, who then shall be impaled on it. The house shall be made a dunghill. 12May the God who has established his name there overthrow any king or people that shall put forth a hand to alter this, or to destroy this house of God in Jerusalem. I, Darius, make a decree; let it be done with all diligence.

13Then, according to the word sent by King Darius, Tattenai, the governor of the province Beyond the River, Shethar-Bozenai, and their associates did with all diligence what King Darius had ordered. 14So the elders of the Jews built and prospered, through the prophesying of the prophet Haggai and Zechariah son of Iddo. They finished their building by command of the God of Israel and by decree of Cyrus, Darius, and King Artaxerxes of Persia; 15and this house was finished on the third day of the month of Adar, in the sixth year of the reign of King Darius.

16The people of Israel, the priests and the Levites, and the rest of the returned exiles, celebrated the dedication of this house of God with joy. 17They offered at the dedication of this house of God one hundred bulls, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs, and as a sin-offering for all Israel twelve male goats, according to the number of the tribes of Israel. 18Then they set the priests in their divisions and the Levites in their courses for the service of God at Jerusalem, as it is written in the book of Moses."   Ezra 6:6-18

UnBirthday Celebration

Join us all for the Unbirthday Celebration in the Community Room on Sunday, September 9, at 9:25 a.m. in the Sunday School Hour.

You will have the opportunity to meet everyone who has the same birthday month as you have and you can decorate your own cupcake.  Don't worry if you don't want a cupcake - come for coffee.

Let's pack the downstairs and have our friends from both services attend.

If you like to bake and would like to make cupcakes for our party - don't frost them - call Judy Commers, at 219-326-0597.

How many people can the downstairs hold?  Our goal is to set a record number of people.  Please don't miss this opportunity.

ENDOWMENT FUND GRANT INVITATIONS

Application forms for Endowment "Request for distribution of Fund Income" are available in the church office and are due no later than September 10.  Any recognized and functioning church group may present a request within established guidelines.

The purpose of the Endowment Fund is to provide a means to fulfill special needs of the church in Christian Ministry and Mission.  It is not intended that the Endowment Fund be used for the ongoing operating expenses of the church but rather provide funding for special projects, programs, or needs that arise outside of the general budget.

Thank You! Thank You Huge
Dear 1stUMC, I would first like to thank you for scholarship I received.  The money will go a long way to aid in my future endeavors in college.

I also thank you for instilling a faith in God within me and allowing me to foster the habits of a good Christian.

Thank you, Riley Holkan
School Supplies
Our church is sponsoring
a classroom supply drive.

This year we will collect supplies for teachers to give to students as the need arises.

Please help support this ministry by bringing any of the following items:  Crayons, glue sticks, dry erase markers, pink erasers, scissors, 3-hole notebook paper, pocket folders, pencils, pencil boxes, spiral notebooks, facial tissue, index cards (3x5), calculators, markers (washable).
Church Family
If you have a member of your family taken to the hospital or a nursing facility, please let Pastor Gwen know by calling the church office at 872-7200 as soon as possible.

Due to privacy policy, the hospital no longer calls the church to tell us if someone from this church has been admitted to the hospital.

It is very important to Pastor Gwen to know when someone is admitted to the hospital or nursing facility in order to minister to the needs of the family member admitted and to the rest of the family.
