Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for Transformation of the World
|

Welcome to
First United Methodist Church
of Michigan City
Greetings!
Have you considered the effect of passing under the cross of Christ at Calvary? No, we are not in the Easter Season; however, as followers and disciples of Jesus the Messiah, we are always celebrating the saving love of the Messiah.
Jesus spoke the miraculous expression of compassion in words and deed upon the cross. The deed of sharing love is a communicable attribute of God. Those communicable attributes are available for us as disciples. Often as disciples we are not certain of the power that is ours. Human kind consistently covets worldly power which has a focus on controlling the lives of others out of one's own fears and insecurities. Controlling power is coveted at the expense of never knowing the spiritual power which enables a fulfilling and joy complete life. Communicable attributes such as love and forgiveness are graciously offered to Disciples of Christ.
An often quoted expression among the faith community is, "let go and let God." What interferes with the mental and heart wrenching need to covet a state of non-forgiveness? The spirit and power of forgiving is trapped in failed and flawed relationships. As believers, we must desire the communicable attribute of our LORD of a forgiving spirit. Jesus states, "For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins" as recorded in Matthew 26:28, New Revised Standard Version of the Bible. True forgiveness is more than words spoken or unspoken.
Reflect upon the lives of a family triangle in the biblical accounts of Abraham, Sarah and Hagar. I paraphrase the conflict encounter of their lives which reflect broken relationships and a spirit of un-forgiveness until the healing power of the LORD. I invite you to read the account in Genesis 16-17 and Genesis 21. Prayerfully, lessons learned from the lives of Abraham, Sarah and Hagar relieve any apprehensions in accessing the Godly communicable attribute to forgive and desire healing from the conquering power of God.
"Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins." Hebrews 9:22, New Revised Standard Version of the Bible.

The purpose of the Endowment Fund is to provide a means to fulfill special needs of the church in Christian Ministry and Mission. Church Family
If you have a member of your family taken to the hospital or a nursing facility, please let Pastor Gwen know by calling the church office (872-7200) as soon as possible.
Due to privacy policy, the hospital will no longer call the church to tell us if someone from this church has been admitted to the hospital.
It is very important to Pastor Gwen to know when someone is admitted to the hospital or nursing facility in order to minister to the needs of the family member admitted and to the rest of the family.
