Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for Transformation of the World

Welcome to

First United Methodist Church

of Michigan City

Greetings!

Where is the church?  Where do we find those who are the living body of Christ?  Who is making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world?  Where are the present day disciples of Christ partnering with the next generations to continue the building of the Kingdom?  Do you hear their voices drumming, piping, marching onward toward the prize for the goal of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus, LORD and Savior?

The world has transitioned to mobile telephones and many no longer subscribe to a telephone service for home telephone.  Now everyone wants to know our e-mail addresses, even the department stores, to alert us to their sales promotions.  The newer model cars no longer require a key for the ignition in order to drive.  Newer models start with the push of a button.  Window fans are almost an historical artifact.  We now transition to the portable air conditioner which cools several rooms and can be moved from one room to another.  The old antenna on the roof of a house is never seen.  Homes use cable, direct TV or dish for their home entertainment for watching the television.

Have we, who consider ourselves believers in the Messiah, followed the Lord's lead of coming down to understand the world through the eyes of the lowly?  Are we the icon of faith or the icon of the mighty and powerful?  God put on flesh and came to earth to the poor, the lowly; a teenage person for the mother of the Son of God and a workman, a carpenter, as the earthly father.  Has the culture of church miscommunicated what the living body of Christ is for in the world today?

The next generations are struggling to identify places and people open to the same petition of some of the early European settlers in the Americas; to worship God in freedom.  Could we be the new land of opportunity for the worship of God in spirit and truth sensitive to the culture of the next generations?

The answer is in our hearts. The next generations are bank managers, real estate brokers, teachers, principals, artists, business owners; they are in our neighborhoods.

ENDOWMENT FUND GRANT INVITATIONS

Application forms for Endowment "Request for distribution of Fund Income" are available in the church office and are due no later than September 10.  Any recognized and functioning church group may present a request within established guidelines.

The purpose of the Endowment Fund is to provide a means to fulfill special needs of the Church in Christian Ministry and Mission.  It is not intended that the Endowment Fund be used for the ongoing operating expenses of the church, but rather provide funding for special projects, programs, or needs that arise outside of the general budget.

Recommendations of the Endowment Fund Committee are subject to Charge Conference approval.

Get-To-Know-You Gatherings held at the church in small group settings provides an opportunity for you to know Pastor Gwen and for her to know you.

Church Family
If you have a member of your family taken to the hospital or a nursing facility, please let Pastor Gwen know by calling the church office (872-7200) as soon as possible.

Due to privacy policy, the hospital will no longer call the church to tell us if someone from this church has been admitted to the hospital.

It is very important to Pastor Gwen to know when someone is admitted to the hospital or nursing facility in order to minister to the needs of the family member admitted and to the rest of the family.
