Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for Transformation of the World

Welcome to

First United Methodist Church

of Michigan City

Greetings!

Blessings of peace, joy, hope and a remembrance of your baptism is my prayer for you today.

I have served with you less than three weeks since this is only July 19, 2012.  It has been my joy in learning more about the faith community here and Michigan City.  This past Sunday as we gathered in fellowship over a meal in a relaxed formal setting, we had an opportunity to share our experiences of life.  I want to express my sincere appreciation for the welcoming meal.  Not only were the dishes beautiful and inviting, they were delicious, too.  To those who worked in the kitchen, serving and cleaning, you blessed us richly with your gracious spirit in serving.

This week was the first of the "Getting to Know Pastor and Congregation" gatherings which are held at the church.  In those gatherings, we share briefly anything that a person wants to share about their life and I share briefly about my life.  There is an opportunity to share briefly about the church and community.  The gatherings last approximately forty-five minutes to one hour.  Each person is encouraged to sign-up for one session as an enhancement of our spiritual growth and work in the Lord.

As we continue to grow in God's grace, let us be supportive encouragers of the work of our sisters and brothers in glorifying God.  I am reminded of the words recorded in the Old Testament Book of Psalms 100:1-3a, "Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth.  Worship the Lord with gladness; come into his presence with singing.  Know that the Lord is God."  The continuous challenge is to live praise for God's saving act through Jesus the Messiah.

In closing, my prayer is that we, the living body of Christ, be strengthened in the knowledge of making a joyful noise at all times and in all places as worship is a way of life far beyond the service on Sunday.

Name Tags
Let's welcome visitors to our church by wearing our name tags.

Name tags are a "Yes" to visitors and guests that God sends our way to minister to.

We wear name tags because the church of the Christ is not about its members but about those who have not yet become members.

It is a great and holy habit to get into each and every Sunday!

Karol McFeely is looking for two more people to volunteer to be hospital visitors.  It is a very rewarding service and is a blessing to both the person visiting and the person being visited.

New Home-Bound Member

Charles Reed has been added to the Homebound Ministries list.  He has been in the hospital several times recently and is now in rehab at the Arbors, Room 317, 1101 E. Coolspring Ave., MC, if you would like to send him a card or note.  He and his mother (Harriet) had been long time members of the church.  He has had vision problems for many years but now has several other medical issues coupled with the fact that he doesn't drive, that have kept him from church attendance.  He does enjoy viewing the services on television.

Thanks for Your Prayers

Carson has been on our prayer list for several months. I am so happy to report that Carson is home after having a liver and bi-lateral kidney transplant. He is doing exceptionally well for his young age of five. He is currently starting a round of chemotherapy just for precaution. His parents, Sarah and Josh, are grateful to our congregation for our prayers.
