My husband says I'm not a Type A personality; he says I'm Type AAA! According to him, I'm like the Energizer Bunny...I keep going and going and going.
Cancer slowed me down a bit and I don't quite have the stamina I had before, but I still have a lot of energy.
A mother's work is never done. No matter your energy level, sometimes it's hard to stop because you know you'll have to face the work at some point. (Tweet this!)
* If I don't do the dishes tonight, I'll have to do them in the morning.
* If we don't get the yard mowed today, it will be even higher tomorrow.
* If I don't do the laundry today, there will be two additional loads in the next 24 hours!
So we keep pushing, working, and exhausting ourselves.
But God showed us there's another way. When we open the Bible to page 1, we read the story of creation where God worked for six days and then rested on the seventh. Throughout the Old Testament we see the value of "the Sabbath" being a time of rest.
An even bigger impact for me is reading about Jesus' life in the New Testament gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. As I read through those books, I'm reminded that Jesus went to bed at night and not everyone was healed. He went to bed and not every need was met. Jesus modeled rest for us!
I'll let you in on a little secret I've learned over the years: The dishes that wait til morning don't look quite as overwhelming when you're rested as they did the night before when you're tired. Don't get me wrong: I'm not advocating procrastination. I'm just saying that sometimes when there's too much on our plate we need to let something go and stop and rest.
When we take care of our body and soul, we have the energy to tackle that never-ending "to do" list every mom has.
What do you need to let go of today so you can stop and rest? Follow God's lead, push the pause button, and recharge your batteries. Your family will notice the difference.
