I'll be the first to admit it: I'm way too serious most of the time. I'm not the fun mom...I'm more the practical mom, or the organized mom, or the "teaching" mom.
However, I've come to understand that even though I don't naturally see the fun side of things, I do possess the power to lighten up!
For instance, when dealing with my child's disrespectful response, I can jump into lecture mode OR I can use a little creative communication and accomplish the same thing by saying, "How about you circle back around the airport and try to land that plane again?"
In my marriage, it becomes easy to always communicate about the "business" of family activities like who's picking up which kid at which activity and what kid has lost what privilege. Those things need to be communicated, but not without some lighthearted communication like, "I'm thinking about you!" or "You + Me = Love" or even a playful, "Guess what I'm not wearing?"
Where do you need to lighten up? Laugh a little? Have a little more fun?
When God lives inside of us, joy is a fruit of the Spirit we possess!
Want to change the dynamics of your family? Lighten up! (Tweet This!) It will put a smile on your face and bring joy to those around you!

How a Hearts at Home Mom Unleashed Her Power to Lighten Up
While talking on the phone after breakfast one day, my twin toddlers were playing by the kitchen table. Suddenly I saw both boys pulling bowls of milk off the table. Not able to move fast enough, the milk spilled on the top of their heads and all over the floor. It was time to laugh or cry. Much to the surprise of the person I was talking to, I laughed. I've learned being able to lighten up stops anger in its tracks and keeps me from saying things I'll later regret.
