The American Baptist Churches USA (ABCUSA) Board of General Ministries voted to approve two critical actions regarding Burma on Friday, June 13, at its meeting at the Green Lake Conference Center/American Baptist Assembly in Green Lake, Wisconsin.

One action is with regard to U.S. financial support for the Burmese military, and the other concerns a proposed law on religious conversion.  Each of these issues has the potential for great harm to Baptist Christians and others in Burma. Read More

BLOG: Conversations Change Lives and Congregations

This blog was written by Rev. Dr. C. Jeff Woods, associate general secretary for Regional Ministries, ABCUSA.

The momentum from our first ever ABC Mission Summit Conversations continues.  Last year, over 1,000 people participated in conversations around key topics that had been shown to be of importance to American Baptists.  Our first American Baptist Mission Table event narrowed that list to ten topics - view them here.  Since that event, Mission Summit Conversations have been held in the ABC regions of Maine, Vermont/NH, Connecticut, and Indianapolis and more are scheduled to take place this year.

FBC Denver Serves Lunches and Meets Greater Community Need

Members of First Baptist Church of Denver wanted to become more involved in ministry to the homeless and impoverished population surrounding its downtown location, but were uncomfortable with the small number of volunteers and dollars available.  They decided to begin with a once-weekly lunch meal in partnership with Capitol Hill community Services.

With help from an ABCUSA Matthew 25 Grant, they soon found themselves serving over 200 lunches every Monday.  Not only did these neighbors receive much-needed food, but church members also received confidence in their ability to make a real difference in the lives of these brothers and sisters.  They were encouraged enough to expand their ministry through partnership with Capitol Hill United Ministries, providing shelter for up to 20 homeless women the second and fourth Fridays of every month.

We Need Feedback from ABC Youth!

Please pass on the link below to the 16-23 year members in your church!

Dear 16-23 year old:

We value your opinion!

Please take a moment to respond to that attached link which will take you to an American Baptist Survey of 16-23 year olds.

The purpose of the survey is to generate additional potential topics of conversation for our next Mission Summit Conversations to be held in Overland Park, Kansas, June 26-28, 2015.  The ultimate hope is to bring to light important issues facing Millennials so that our churches can better minister alongside young adults in this vital stage of life.

Please share your honest opinions as you respond to each question.  Although the content received will be used to form topics for future ABC conversation groups, all specific responses will be kept confidential.

A Tribute: You are Created. You are Called. Claim it-and Celebrate!
This blog was written by Patricia Hernandez, national director of Women in Ministry and Transition Ministries, ABCUSA. Written in early May, the blog is posted as a tribute to  Rev. Dr. Veronica Lanier, long time minister, missionary and coordinator of missionary speakers, who died on Wednesday, May 28. We fondly remember Ronny and her many years touching American Baptists, and other lives, along the way.

Spring is a time of new beginnings.  As I approach the beginning of my third year serving as the National Director for American Baptist Women in Ministry, I am thinking back to my beginnings. The first week that I began this new ministry role....

Where in the World is General Secretary Medley?

General Secretary A. Roy Medley travels and represents American Baptist Churches USA wherever he goes. On May 17, Medley brought the commencement address at the graduation ceremony of Palmer Theological Seminary. The last week of May, Medley traveled to Iran with a group of religious leaders from the United States, to meet with leaders in Iran. The group met with leaders who desire an end to religious extremism and violence, who want dialogue, who want a growing exchange between America and their nation. Following this trip, Medley met with the Journey Team for the Transformed by the Spirit initiative, helping to guide the planning and future of TbyS. He also attended the Board of General Ministries meetings and BGM Executive Committee meetings in Green Lake, Wisconsin, June 14-16.

Please continue to hold Dr. Medley in your prayers as he travels nationally and internationally, representing American Baptists at events in the coming months.
