"Blessed is He Who Comes in the Name of The Lord!" |
Holy Week is a portal. Portals are openings to new spaces, and new realities. In popular literature, whether it be the rabbit hole in "Alice in Wonderland," the tornado in the Wizard of Oz, or King's Cross Station Platform 9-3/4 in the Harry Potter series, portals are magical openings to alternate worlds. Why would an American Baptist

church care about diapers? Just ask the folks at First Baptist in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. During First Baptist's Missional Church Learning Experience with Glynis LaBarre of the American Baptist Home Mission Societies, they became aware that diapers are one of the items which food stamps do not cover. How Big Are Your Margins?
|
A few weeks ago, in a conversation about how I could continue to be of service to the region, Alan Newton [executive minister, ABC Rochester Genessee Region] suggested I might write about pastoral care. After he left, I found myself looking at a book he had given me on Lent and remembered how this liturgical season is thought of by many as one of the busiest seasons of the year. So, I would like to challenge each of us to think about this question. If your life were a piece of paper, how big would your margins be? Read More
This reflection was written by Rev. Dr. Sharon Jacobson, Spiritual Director, and was originally published in "The Baptist Update," the newsletter for the American Baptist Churches of the Rochester-Genesee Region.
