NABF Event Looks at Future of Baptists in North America
The North American Baptist Fellowship event, "FutureBaptists: A Collaborative Missional Movement," took place March 6-7 at Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church, an American Baptist Churches USA affiliated church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. FutureBaptists was a gathering honoring the 50th anniversary of the North American Baptist Fellowship (NABF) that anticipates the next 50 years of Baptists in North America as a collaborative missional movement.

Deepening Our Discipleship: Focus on Spiritual Formation

The Transformed by the Spirit initiative is helping change the outlook of American Baptist congregations. Through this emphasis, congregations are being urged to more fully engage their communities and the world for the sake of the gospel. However, a church which is outwardly focused in mission can only be sustained by a strengthening of the discipleship of its members. Just as a tree can only grow as far as its root system will sustain it, so a congregation can actively engage in outward mission only as far as their rootedness in Christ will permit.

As ABC enters the second two-year cycle with Transformed by the Spirit, ABCUSA is introducing another initiative in spiritual formation that is essential to sustain the outward missional efforts of our congregations. This initiative will focus on four areas of emphasis.

Kodiak Baptist Mission: 120 Years of Service
On July 4, 2013, KBM began its 121st year of continuous service to the children of Alaska. Today, just as it was in the very beginning, KBM is a vibrant influence in the lives of children living on this remote Alaskan Island. Being so firmly established in American Baptist history and Alaskan ministry, it's hard to imagine the crisis this ministry faced, which almost closed its doors forever.

First Baptist Church of Belfast and the Game Loft Meet Community Need
Urban poverty is a well-documented challenge facing us today. However, there are also significant pockets of rural poverty that do not receive as much attention. First Baptist Church of Belfast, Maine, is working in partnership with other local churches to address some of these needs through The Game Loft, created to promote positive youth development through non-electronic games and community involvement. A recent award from the Matthew 25 Grant fund is making a difference in the lives of children in the area.
A Pilgrimage to Taizé

Would you like time to reflect and work on your spiritual life and relationship with God? Join other American Baptists and friends on a Pilgrimage to Taizé! The Pilgrimage is primarily created for those aged 17-29, though everyone is welcome. Sponsored by ABCUSA and in partnership with the Threshold, Illuminated Journeys and Calvary Baptist Church of Denver, the focus of the pilgrimage will be a week at the Taizé community in France. Each participant will join the community for sung prayer three times a day, meet with the Taizé brothers for Bible study and belong to a small group made up of young people from around the world.

Where in the World is General Secretary Medley?
General Secretary A. Roy Medley travels and represents American Baptist Churches USA wherever he goes. Last week, Dr. Medley joined ABC Mission Center staff in welcoming the Executive Committee of the Baptist World Alliance to the Mission Center in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Medley, a member of the committee, joined Baptists from around the world for worship and decision-making in the meetings from March 3-5. Medley then attended the Executive Committee meeting of the North American Baptist Fellowship on March 6, at ABC-affiliated Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church in Philadelphia.

Please continue to hold Dr. Medley in your prayers as he travels nationally and internationally, representing American Baptists at events in the coming months.
