What Excites Me About Being American Baptist? Mission.
"We are a Matthew 25 people. This excites me about being an American Baptist. We are the hands and feet of Jesus. We are Christ's heart. Our ears are tuned to the voices that are seldom heard. Our eyes focused on those who have become invisible."
   - Rev. Elizabeth B. Congdon, Senior Pastor of The First Baptist Church of Trenton, NJ

A Letter to American Baptist Pastors - Mission Summit 2013
Have you registered for Mission Summit 2013?

The Mission Summit/Biennial, June 21-23,2013, will be historic, literally. We are celebrating multiple anniversaries as American Baptists: 375 years since the founding of the First Baptist Church in America, 200 years since our first international missionaries Ann and Adoniram Judson landed in Burma, and 150 years since the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. To say that your worship will be enriched by two 200-voice Burmese-American choirs, international guests, and challenging speakers is just to hint at all that God has waiting for you.

Women in Ministry Advisory Team Launches "Celebrating the Gifts of Women in Ministry"

The Women in Ministry Advisory Team is excited to introduce "Celebrating the Gifts of Women in Ministry," a letter of support created by the Advisory Team to gather signatures of American Baptists who affirm women as ministerial leaders for our churches. The initiative seeks to highlight the support that already exists for women as leaders in our churches--but may not be widely known--in order to encourage others

to join in this momentous movement.

The team extends an invitation to join in a public affirmation of the gifts that women bring to ministry and for the vision of the full partnership of men and women in professional church leadership.

Those interested can sign the letter by clicking here.

Common Ground: A Baptist-Muslim Conversation

Central Baptist Theological Seminary hosted a conversation between Baptists and Muslims at Prairie Baptist Church, Prairie Village, KS, on Saturday, April 20. The Committee on Christian Unity and Interfaith Relations of ABCUSA partnered with Central for the event, which was part of a national dialogue between the Muslim and Christian communities on "The Love of God and Pathways to Peace." The initiative comes as a response to A Common Word Between Us and You, an open letter from Muslim religious leaders and scholars to world Christian leaders calling for peace and justice between the two religious communities.

Where in the World is General Secretary Medley?
General Secretary A. Roy Medley travels and represents American Baptists Churches USA wherever he goes. April began with a trip to Green Lake Conference Center in Green Lake, Wisconsin, to meet with denominational leaders for the National Leadership Council meetings. Roy preached at Antioch Baptist Church in St. Louis, Missouri, on April 21. From there, he went to Chicago and Michigan, before ending the week at an American Baptist Churches of Connecticut gathering. On April 28, Medley gave the message at the First Baptist Church of Stratford, Connecticut. Roy spent a few days in April at the Mission Center in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, but the majority of his month was spent on the road!
