Endless Summer - yeah!

Thanks to all of you who turned out for our Annual "Take Back the Beach" Picnic a few weeks ago to celebrate the end of summer, the return of northwest swell to our beach, and the close of the tourist season. Except that it still feels like summer with crazy warm ocean temps and hot sunny days... We'll all be in our winter wetsuits soon enough.

We have a lot of great events coming up and I invite you to join our club in any of our activities. Please consider giving back by joining as a member. For the first time ever, we are going on a Baja weekender surf trip! This is a La Jolla Shores exclusive, with limited spaces - so get your reservations in now!

The Coalition Contest season is coming to an end, and there are just two more events to gain team points and move La Jolla Shores up in the standings. Check out the schedule and join in the fun!

Baja Weekender Sat & Sun Nov. 15 & 16

Hosted by Manny Vargas, expect nothing short of a safe, fun and delicious time south of the border. Manny V and Damian Davila do everything possible to ensure your Baja adventure is hassle-free, worry-free and fun! This is the trip to hone your surfing skills in the empty lines ups, relax with an after-session beer and spend time with friends.

**Attendance Is Limited To 11 LJSSA Members and Friends. Trip is limited to the first 11 surfers to register. There is a minimum attendance of 3 members for the event to take place. This trip has a high possibility of selling out, so do not delay on signing up!

WHO: LJSSA Members & Friends

WHEN: Saturday 15 Nov 5:30 AM PDT to Sunday 16 Nov 6:00 AM PDT (Time is dependent to border wait times)

TIME: 5:30 AM Saturday Meet Time

WHERE: Meet time at The Starlite Restaurant on India Street. Street parking available.

DRIVE TIME: Downtown San Diego to first surf session approximately 50 minutes

DRIVE TIME RETURN: 45 minutes plus time in the Otay Border Crossing (1-3 hours)

Ribbon Cutting for Kellogg Park North Restrooms October 30th at noon

It's been a long winter of wait for the new bathrooms at the north end of Kellogg Park and we invite you all to help us celebrate the opening. Our surf club is proud to be sponsoring some new colorful mosaics - coming soon - to adorn the shower stall (dolphins above) and a panel on the south side to celebrate Surfing at La Jolla Shores. The panel enjoins all to "RESPECT EVERYONE'S RIGHT TO ENJOY THE OCEAN" and will feature a beautiful background with surfboards and some tiles illustrating basic surfing etiquette for the thousands of beginners and visitors at our surf break. A big thank you goes to our own Simon Andrews of Graphic Solutions for the hours of volunteer work he has dedicated to this project.

Dedicated benches will be installed soon, donated by locals to help complete the project funding. This entire project was privately funded by the John G. Watson Foundation in memory and honor of John G. Watson. We also thank the dedication and work of Friends of La Jolla Shores - our non-profit partner in bringing many needed improvements to our beach.

Our Kids Rock the WSC Menehune Contest - congratulations to all!

Last weekend brought our friendly surf club brethren - the Windansea Surf Club - to our beach as they hosted their Annual Menehune Contest. Lorraine had a ton of fun cheering on our surf club members in the contest and would like to shout out their accomplishments: Kristin Furuhomen - 2nd/Girls LB and SB 10-11; Olivia Chaplin- 5th/Girls LB 10-11; Emma Nooren - 4th Girls LB 12-13; Ava Verbrugghen 3rd/Girls LB 13-15, AJ Nooren 6th/Boys 13-15 LB, and a special congratulations to Brian Bushey for competing in his first-ever shortboard heat! Thanks to the Nooren family who competed as LJSSA team members in the Coalition event - Emma, AJ, and Jill, and a special shoutout to mom Jill Nooren in her first surfing competition, making the final!
