Endless Summer
Greetings!
Thanks to all of you who turned out for our Annual Day After Beach cleanup to return the beach to near perfect condition after the thousands of July 4th beach visitors. I'd like to do more organized cleanups but we can make a difference by picking up just a few pieces of trash on your way in and out of the ocean.
We mourn the loss of a dear surfing friend and Shore's local Dan Trombley. We come together in these times to pay tribute and let his family members know what he meant to each of us.
The season of Coalition Contests is upon us, and I encourage all of you to participate and/or support the efforts of our sister surf clubs that are all hosting upcoming events this fall: Malibu Surfing Association, Windansea, Swamis Surfing Association, PB and Cardiff Surf Club. We are open to new competitors and have enjoyed some good camaraderie at some of the best breaks in California: Santa Cruz, Malibu, Oceanside, Cardiff, Tourmaline, and yes, La Jolla Shores! Check out the schedule and join in the fun!
This weekend, you have a chance to view the living legends of surfing at the 20th Annual Luau & Longboard Invitational in support of the UCSD Moores Cancer Center.
We'll be hosting our annual Take Back the Beach picnic sometime in September after the tourists are gone and I will keep you posted so you can join us.
Enjoy the beach, share the waves, and SEA you out surfin'!

In Memoriam: Dan Trombley 1955 - 2013
Dan Trombley, loving father, son, brother, husband and friend, passed away suddenly last month at the age of 57. Dan had a huge heart for people and many of you knew him from his many years of surfing the Shores. You may have enjoyed Dan's quick smile and friendly demeanor knee boarding on big wave days, or driving through the parking lot in his big F250 pickup with an outrigger canoe on top. We send our love to family members Mary, Kevin and Collin - and to his larger extended family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Dan's memory to Wounded Warriors or Labrador Rescuers. We miss you Dan.

LJSSA Surf Team at Malibu and Oceanside
One of our best surf team trips is to the Malibu Board Riders "Call to the Wall" every July- a classic event which features great hospitality, aloha heats for non advancing surfers, and the perfect wave! Our team riders didn't make the finals, but all reported good surf and weather. Thanks to all who made the trip. Click here to check out photos from the weekend in our facebook album.
We fared a little better at Oceanside, placing 10th overall, thanks to our advancing finalists Sarah Goldstein (6th/Open Women) and our first ever Tandem team Hannah and Matt Dunfee (pictured at left) (5th/Tandem ). Congratulations to both! Click here to view more photos online.
Join us for the upcoming fall coalition events here in town hosted by our friends in the Coalition and contact surf team captain Michelle Connelly if you'd like to compete for La Jolla Shores Surfing Association.

20th Annual Luau & Longboard Invitational
Sunday, August 18 at Scripps Pier

...celebrating 20 years of surfing for a cure to benefit the UCSD Morres Cancer Center - this local event is fun to watch and it's FREE.
The day begins at 7 a.m. with the Longboard Invitational at the beach just south of Scripps Pier. Each company-sponsored team of four is paired up with a longboard legend to compete in the surfing contest. The contest is free to watch. Many come to watch the event, get autographs, and buy souvenirs. Check it out and you may see living legends like "Wingnut" Weaver, Greg Noll, and Shaun Tomson.
