Ministry to Children in the Philippines
"Please Ate, can you put some food in my bowl?" asked this little one yesterday morning when we visited the garbage dumpsite. So many children came that I was afraid we might run out of food, but God stretched it and all the children received a nutritious high protein meal.
I remember a day a few years ago when we went to this particular dump site. We were taking photos of some of the children. One was heard to say, "These Americans. They always come here and take photos of us and promise to help. But they leave and we never see them again." That statement by a young girl touched my heart. We determined we would not do that to these children. With God's help, we would help them.
Our welcome is quite different now. We sponsor several children who live here and we help provide food to feed them. When we arrive, they welcome us with big smiles and many "thank you's." They open their hearts and their arms in greeting. No longer do they resent it when we take photos and photos of their beautiful children.

The meal served to the children included a rich nutritious soup served over rice. Every child also received a boiled egg and a banana.

Many children at the garbage dump still need sponsors and they wait, hope and pray that they will be selected so they can go to school. A sponsor will make a big difference in the life of a child who is hungry, dirty and cannot go to school.
These children are the future of the Philippines. They will grow up to be the leaders in their community, region and some will become leaders in their nation. Perhaps some will be senators, school principals, medical doctors. We expect some day one of our sponsored children will be president of this great nation of the Philippines. What a privilege it is to be part of God's plan for them.
