Ministry to Children in the Philippines
Pastor Frank come play with me. When we visited the garbage dumpsite last Saturday, the children were ready to play. They were so happy to see us and enjoyed the bananas and bread and other goodies we brought for them. What they really wanted more than anything was attention and our team gave it to them in abundance.
We also handed out more than 100 toothbrushes and toothpaste that were donated by one of our sponsors back home. They were all so excited. After all the children received them, the mothers came and asked if they could have one too. Most of the families living here cannot buy a toothbrush for every family member and toothpaste is an unaffordable luxury. The same toothbrush is shared by many. So such a gift is very special to them.
This location was our first in the Philippines. We have been working in this location for about 15 years. We have watched as sponsored children, who did not have a chance at life, grow into beautiful and handsome young people who are educated, godly servants who are in the process of rising out of poverty.
In church on Sunday morning, sponsored young people in high school and college were leading in praise and worship and helping with younger children. Sponsors made their rise out of poverty possible.
Some would say, "Why do you do this? Don't you know there will always be poor people?" My answer to that is "Yes that is true, but these we help today will not be among the poor tomorrow. There will be another batch." God likes it when we give to and bless the poor. That is reason enough.
On Saturday we saw the "next batch" of poor children who need help. Those we saw were young -- elementary age. Most are not sponsored. One little girl came to the pastor while we were there and asked if he would accept her to be sponsored. He said she comes to him almost every week and asks the same thing. We could sponsor more than 100 today. God may speak to your heart about being part of what He wants to do among the people and in the nation of the Philippines. You can respond by sponsoring children or helping to feed them.
Pray about it. If God speaks to you about it, use the links below. You will be blessed, knowing you are having a life-changing impact on a young life.
