Who Is the Minister?
Jonas Bohlin
A few days ago I spoke to a business man from East Texas who was actively involved in the leadership of his church. As a matter of fact, he had just preached a sermon the Sunday before. He was struggling with whether or not he should give up his business job and enter the ministry "full-time." The Lord said to me, "Tell him that the whole Body of Christ has been called to be ministers wherever we are." I spoke that word to him and he stopped, looked at me, and said, "You are exactly right."
For too long, the church has left the ministry up to full-time staff. I believe it is because we get so wrapped up in jobs, family, house...life that it just makes sense to leave the ministry to the "pastors". It's their job! That is just not the way the church was designed!
There is apostolic leadership that is to equip the saints for the work that must be done and to build up the Body of Christ.
Ephesians 4:11-12 (NASB) "And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ."
This passage continues in verse 13, "Until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ."
The work of those with apostolic gifts is to continue until the Body attains unity, knowledge of Jesus and maturity to the point that we are like Jesus in every way. You are called to be equipped and built up by "full-time" ministers in order to serve the mature, Christ-like function in the Kingdom that God has designed specifically for you right where you are.
You are the minister!!
