Emelie is 11. She lives with her family at a garbage dump site. Both of her parents are scavengers. Many times they do not have enough food for their family and they struggle providing even basic needs. They want a better life for their 5 children. Emilie is smart and wants to get an education because she knows it is the way to break from the poverty. She often cares for her younger sister who is 4 years old, cannot walk and suffers from malnutrition. Emilie wants to be a doctor so she can help children like her sister.
Here is a note from Emelie: Dear Ate Kathy and Sponsor, I love the towel and other gifts I got last Christmas. Thank you so much. My parents were so happy because for the first time we had good food to eat at Christmas. The storm last December 29 was strong and we had flooded houses because of the heavy rain, but now there are no more storms.
This is the first school year Emelie has been sponsored. It has already made a big difference in her life. The education, the food, the discipleship and mentoring she receives every day will direct her life in a totally different direction than would have been possible before.
